I just want to apologise for being depressing before I start but I need to offload and I know this is the best place:A

For certain reasons I cannot give too many details but will try to explain best I can.

For the last week I have spent a lot of time in my local ITU sitting with a lady whom I have known for 15months. This is to do with my work although it does not normally involve hospitals and never situations like this :( The lady is only in her early 40's and through complications from a simple operation is now severely ill. Got told the weekend she is unresponsive and they think brain dead, although her heart is beating she is on a respirator. I have sat and talked, laughed and tried my best to be positive not knowing if she can hear anything I am saying:( I found out today that they will be turning the respirator off tomorrow and she will either die or breathe for herself but be faced with a life of 24hr care with no dignity:( . I know I should be more professional and it should not be affecting me this way but this is the first time I have been faced with such a sad situation. I don't know until the morning if I am expected to be there when it happens as she has no close family.
How will I be strong? I really don't think I can be :(

I think you are being professional by just showing that you care!

I imagine she feels really glad and touched that even though she has no close family, she has you.

I hope it isn't too hard for you, you've done such a great thing by just being there for her!

Well finally caught up, so it's time for bed before the wife gets home, and starts reminding me of all the things I could have done if I wasn't addicted to Mr T. Good night
  • I am already planing how to get home and car insurance off there, you have opened my eyes to it. I got a really good deal on the body shop stuff. That's mothers day cover for next year.

make sure you get quotes first from tcb cos you get paid off some companies just for asking for quotes x:D

So that every single post that I contribute to this thread is on topic I would just like to say I am an elite 11+ member and I hear the unjust silence of my opinions whilst I am shopping in supermarkets mainly. Just sayin.

    Right everyone....I'm off to bed.

Thread has been quite a roller coaster ride over the past 24 hours (more than normal in my opinion).

For those who are having a difficult time - have a few hugs from karlie88.

    Night night.

I think you have been full of compassion in helping this lady and being there for her this week - all I can say is that I would like to think that I wouldn't die alone (given a choice) and that someone would be there for me. My prayers and thoughts are with you and the lady and I hope you find the answer that is the right action for you on what to do tomorrow. I think you have already shown your strength by your actions this week and emotional connections are part of what makes us human.
