How annoyed would you be if I am the one to tempt fate....and the venue burned down just to spite me ;)

Just incase anyone else is thinking "I've already paid a deposit so it won't be covered" - I've just checked my insurance (E&L) and they say:
"I have already put down a deposit, but not yet taken out insurance. Will it be covered?
Yes, but only up to £1,000. Any payment exceeding £1,000 paid towards or for your wedding venue or reception before the inception of cover will be excluded from cover."
So it may not be too late for some of you.

Cuh Daisy - you're so rude :rotfl: I'm going to have to stay on this board for 9 months after I get married just so I can see your amazing wedding photos :D Lol. x

Aargh!! Please get the insurance ;)

I'm giving Monday a miss, I ended up spending too much after the last one! I found it really useful for ideas though, so definitely recommend going to one (plus they had canap!s!).

Daisiegg, I would recommend the insurance. I have an E&L policy too, which was best value for what i wanted - again you can tailor each aspect.

You'll probably find your house insurance much better for covering objects (gifts, dress, rings etc) than the wedding insurance (e.g. most I saw covered rings for 10 days only). Wedding insurance is most useful, as others have said for suppliers (photographer, florist, DJ, cakemaker, musician, venue, hair stylist, chair cover supplier etc) not doing what you expect them to/have contracted them to do.

I didn't see anyone answer your question about cancelment, curtailmnent and re-arrangement, so here goes:
    • cancelment = you do not have a wedding (for a reason covered by the insurance - see its terms. This won't include change of heart! It may include death, illness, weather etc)
    • curtailment = you have a bit of a wedding (e.g. you have the ceremony but have to cancel the reception for some insured reason)
    • re-arrangement = you have the wedding at a later date/time. You'd be covered for any additional cost in re-arranging (lost deposits, having to contract a more expensive supplier because your original one was not available for the re-arranged date etc) for any insured reason.
I appreciate £125 is a lot, but being devil's advocate, if you're concerned about £125 now, you probably don't want to worry about larger sums the week before your wedding if you find the photgrapher's gone bust and someone drops your cake on your dress. If you're insured you know you'll be reimbursed for their replacement.

If you're looking for quotes, really try and tailor them by how much you could lose in each area, and what you already have cover for under other insurance. For example, I didn't choose any cover for rings or gifts, because it's covered on the house insurance. Bear in mind also, that if you change house insurance before your wedding, you'll have to check what the new policy covers too.

You may decide you don't want the cover - it probably depends how risk-averse you are and how much you feel you have to lose. Either way, hopefully nothing will go wrong and you won't need it!

Yay! I'm looking forward to it. Mainly I want to meet the venue decoration people (Meditterannean something or something) because I have my heart set on a twinkle backdrop....though why I am even contemplating spending any more when the whole thing is already so expensive, I do not know!!

*ahem* a twinkle backdrop is totally essential for the evening (yep, I've booked one!). Last time they had several tables set up in various colour schemes, with different centrepieces so great for ideas if you're stuck like I was.
