No. I got married in a registry office and had a reception on a boat which didn't cost much and then a meal afterwards. Didn't see the need.

What kinds of things could go wrong?

Just trying to work out in my head if we need it...

Suppliers could go bust- you not only lose deposits already paid but may have to find a last minute more expensive replacement, venue or place where dresses/suits are kept could suffer flood/fire damage, if you or oh became ill and needed to delay the wedding- lots of little things that seem very unlikely but could nonetheless happen. If I fell seriously ill just before the wedding, we would lose everything we have already paid and be liable for the full balance from most of the suppliers. We couldn't afford to pay for a wedding twice! I am a natural worrier so for me it was certainly worth it for peace of mind.

want to preface this with "I am not morbid but as you asked!" :rotfl:

You may need to postpone the wedding because of a death
    Or even cancel (god forbid)
    Venue could go bankrupt
Dress shop could be flooded with dress in
Snow could mean no-one can get to the church (it could happen...)
someone could have booked the wrong day with something
    Suppliers could fail to deliver...

I know I'm being an idiot but when people say 'suppliers', what do you mean?

    Florists
    Transport
    Clothing (if hiring suits etc)
    Jeweller (wedding rings.)

Just those off the top of my head...

We thought about not getting insurance, like Ajax (lol I just can't stop calling you that now x), everything is low key - the venue is our house so there really isn't much that could go wrong. We thought about what if something awful happened and we couldn't/didn't want to get married on the day (like god forbid one of our close family members becoming seriously ill) then really all we'd lose out on would be the hire of the tables & chairs (£109) and the food (approx £150 for the fresh food). We figured while yes we could swallow that loss, bearing in mind the actual cost would be double (original date's payments plus the new date's payments); for the sake of £18.20, which we wouldn't miss, it was worth it.

The main thing though I wanted my dress to be covered while it wasn't in my care. Given the state of the economy I thought it was best to have it insured incase the shop or the factory went into adminstration. (Am off to go pick it up tomorrow - cannot wait to have it in my hands officially).

Forgot the £250 for the registry office as well - it all adds up!! (In total that'd be £500 lost, and a further £500 we'd have to pay out to replace it all).

We didn't get insurance, never got round to it. Nothing went wrong. If it was £125 then I wouldn't bother. £25 not so bad. Up to you really if you want to take the gamble.

I know for the sake of £100 or so we should just get it. I just still am struggling to get my head around a) what level of cover we need and b) what it would actually pay out for. Things like the band and the photographer we don't pay until the day anyway and the balance of the venue doesn't get paid until very near the day. Wedding rings will be insured on our home insurance. Our venue is very very very unlikely to go bust (I know it's possible for anywhere, but if somewhere is secure then it's this place). There is a clause in our contract that if they are unable to fulfil, we get our money back - wouldn't that be covered by their own insurance if they went bankrupt or something?

I know, I know, we'll just bite the bullet and get it. Just seems a lot of money for something we probably won't use (I know our wedding venue is very expensive but in the grand scheme of the rest of things, we're really not throwing random £100s away on things like favours, etc. So £100+ seems like a lot).
