On a cheeky note could you ask the venue to accept payments to carry on after you have had your wedding?0

We did our wedding on a budget... i advertised for a free photographer for our wedding... he did it for free (we paid his petrol and gave him a meal) because he was just starting up and needed the experience. Ok, some of the pictures arent great but we got atleast 25 fantastic ones.... 2 of which are on our wall....I cant see the point in spending loads of money on photographs - no one sees more than 2 or 3 anyway!0

we got married 5 years ago 50 family/freinds afternoon meal free bar 2 hours /reg office/ rolls royce/ big buffet on the night for about 150/ rings/ dress /suit hire x4 cost us about 5k all in
my mates all talk about it saying how good a wedding it was and most of them have had the 20k plus ones0 -
^^this. 12 years ago (2K then).
If I invite someone to my wedding I wouldn't expect them to pay for their own outfits if they are part of the wedding party and there is a theme, as this seems unfair on them to me (enjoy the day I have designed according to my whim, but could you pay for it please?).
However, since only the bride and groom were expected to wear more than normal suit/dress at my wedding it wasn't an issue - we were the ones getting married so we wanted to be the ones that looked different.
Paid for in cash at the time. I can't remember much about it now and never look at the pictures.
Weddings - nice concept, but ultimately a fantastic way to waste a lot of cash you can do better things with.0 -

All who were there still say how simple yet intimate the day was especially now that we are all heading to Lapland for my soon to be brother-in-law's mammoth-scale cinderella wedding fully orchestrated by his Finnish fiancee! The family is mortified at the potential cost and what we feel is an unnecessary display of flamboyance.
I guess if you can afford it (and I don't mean CCs, loans or robbery), then every man to his own...0 -
Firstly OP, good luck with everything, I hope you manage to save your wedding.
For those saying a wedding is just about you and your OH - to many its not, (especially a church wedding), its about affirming your love and committing to each other before God and your family and friends, and asking them to support you in your lives together.
Its a celebration of your love.
It is up to each person how you celebrate your own marriage, and if you are happy to have the debt burden to pay for a wedding, to be this is better than debt for cars, TV's, Holidays etc, which other people seem to think it is ok to purchase on finance, but not a wedding, don't "buy" your wedding on finance (For Information - we are having a relatively extragvagent wedding and it is actually all already paid for - or at least we have the money to pay it, but if we both lost our jobs now, maybe we would start using some of the wedding savings to live, who knows - life doesn't always turn out the way we plan)
OP - you will probably get money as wedding gifts, and it should in your case IMO be used to immeadiately pay off as much debt as possible.Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0
