Maybe you could ask the registrar to do it for free, you never know he or she maybe in a good mood?

Beggars belief why you went and paid for everything up front couldn't you have put deposits down for things.

I'm afraid you and your partner are both to blame for this mess, you should have saved up enough money for your wedding before going ahead with everything.People save up for years for their wedding.

What banks in their right mind will lend to you. You should be ashamed of yourselves not knowing how to manage money and admitting this on top is even worst.

sorry to be harsh but it;s the truth, no beating round the bush with this one.

I hope you do get this sorted out.

I never feel sorry for people in this situation. All that waste for one day..

Me personally been Engaged for 6 years, When i finally get married it's only £50 *_* Then £29 for a hotel room and job done, Cheap rings. no need for a bash i'm not paying for people to celebrate. It's our day not their's, So under £200 i will be married off but still 5 years to find £200 without it affecting kids school and shopping/bill money. Only thing in the way is kids need minding so chances are we wont get married until the kids are older so we can have the hotel night honey moon..
  • Priority now is to get the money together for the Registrar and pay them pronto! Then think of everything else which is of least importance!

    This.

I don't know how some peoples' brains just don't get this.

I love it how some people think "I'm getting married, so I have a right to a flipping wonderful day". This is fine - if you can afford it. If you can't, and start getting into debt for one day, then you're a f@cking moron.

Same applies to holidays - I've worked hard, and deserve a holiday on credit, but with no means to repay when I get back. If you really did work hard, you'd have made money to repay it wontcha.
  • But its my day and I want to be a pwincess !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

apparently the average cost for a wedding is £20,000 - obviously you have not read any wedding magazines recently or you would all know that thinks like chair tiebacks & sweetie tables are essential & it will be the world worst wedding if you don't give your guests favours.

My daughter recenlty had to put her wedding on hold as she could not afford to get married (places that do a 3 course meal for under £20 suddenly charge £50 for weddings )

If op needs to cut down she should consider getting rid of the extras and stick with the essentials , ceremony, reception (no added extras) dress & rings - even a photographer isn't essential as everyone has cameras these days & she could ask guests to sewnt their favourites to her.

ok, I'm not going to slate you for the cost of your wedding like many others  10 grand on a wedding although a huge amount of money isn't even anywhere near the national average :o I'm currently planning mine and know how easy it is to run away with things.

Anyway, it would help if you could list your wedding costs and also your monthly outgoing costs so we could make some sensible suggestions.

However, I myself have been on the breadline, like you no money once been paid and even food was an issue, for for here's how to cut down your bill:-

Go shopping late in the evening (say 9pm) and go to the reduced section, you'll be surprised how much food you can pick up cheap, and if its use by that date, what I used to do if it was freezable I'd freeze it till needed later in the week.

Go to shops like aldi for basics such as beans, sugar, fruit and veg.

For cleaning products/hair/body products goto places like B&M bargains or pound shops.

Buy food that can make multiple meals, such as bulk pasta, mix with a couple of spoons of soft cheese (like philly) and a splash of milk, and a few mushrooms. Or make a large lasagne, bolonaise or curry and bulk out with 'value veg' you can buy a big pack of value veg for about 80p in tescos and it will last a few meals.

Cut down on your electric bills etc, only use lights in the room your in. If your heating is on, turn it off, put on an extra jumper. Your water (if metered), don't flush when you go for a wee. Share bath water.

Waste nothing, if you have food left over after a meal, chuck it all in a blender and make a soup.

If your have a mortgage, ask your lender for a payment holiday, even if its just for 1 month your probably looking at least £300 you could save.

Walk instead of public transport or buying petrol.

Wedding stuff that if you have you really don't need:-

    Wedding favours
    seat covers
    coloured napkins/tablecloths
    free bar
use wedding cake for desert (see if you can pay for a 2 course menu)
lingerie (forget it, wear something you already have)
veil/tiara (looks nice but not a necessity)
wedding shoes (forget wedding shoes, if you need new ones, gets some white ones from somewhere like wymans.
    flowers for bridesmaids
get wedding party to pay for their own outfits
hen/stag do (do it afterwards when you can afford it)

    Good luck

Did you all not read the OP's post ? When they booked the wedding they had an extra £1500 per month coming in.

so where did that £1500 a month go?

even if £500 was going on living costs, theres £1000pm just been frittered away
  • I am shocked by this whole thread! How can you spend so much money without having it first?
As someone who is also engaged and due to marry next year I feel sorry for you but am shocked you have got into so much debt for your wedding and this is something that alot of people appear to do. Do you have a mortgage? could you get a payment holiday?
I was due to get married in 2008 but decided not to as we didnt have the money so we put it off and put it off. We had managed to save the money and had plans to get married in 2010 however we decided the money (about 9 grand) was better spent else where. We have now decided to bite the bullet and plan to get married next year, I have not made any plans as of yet and I am still £1000 off the cost I need.
How did your OH wages split by half?
Maybe you should post an SOA so we can give you advice on that? How many cars do you have and could you live without any of them?

I recently read that the biggest cause of divorce is because of money issues so I hope all this money is not wasted.

    Good Luck.
