in Credit cards
hi everyone
i am getting married in 2 months and still owe £2100, my partner has had his wage cut dramatically in half and we now have no time to earn extra money before everything has to be paid. we already have used £3000 (to the limit) on a tesco credit card (no interested for 18months recieved this in april 2012) which we are making minimum repayments to. we have been declined for three loans with Tesco, Halifax and santander, we are really starting to panic there is no family we can loan from and if we can not come up with the money our wedding will have to be cancelled and we will lose the £8000 we have already paid out. our household bills can not be cut further and we are virtually on no money once our direct debit go out on payday.
we are pretty clueless about money and had never had any form of debt until this year (bloody wedding!).
any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry I've no advice to give you but If you've no money left after all your bills are paid, how do you expect to pay another credit card?
Not a good start to a marriage if you've no money and are constantly stressed about making payments0 -

I have to agree, spending £10K+ on a wedding is a bit reckless if you don't have the money. Sorry.0 -
Borrowing on a credit card is not cheap. OK you have a 0% deal going with the tesco card but you need to have a plan now for when the 0% deal runs out.
If you have been declined for loans by the high street, maybe there is a credit union in your area you could approach?

Don't be tempted by payday loan companies to top up the shortfall to save the wedding. Instead of cancelling, could you reschedule for a different date and save losing some of the £8000?0 -
Is there no way you can cancel some "non-essential" parts of your wedding so that you can still have an enjoyable day ? Cancel the photographer and get a friend who's good a pics to do it. Pick you own flowers, decorate rooms yourself etc. Get family to help out. You would be surprised how you can have just as good a day without all the expense. If you have no money left at the end of the month as it is how cud you repay a loan anyway if you did get one?
There's bound to be some way you can get that price down. GOod luck with it ! moggy0 -
If you have not got it, the best thing to do is scale back your plans to fit in with your new budget. If you need to cancel stuff, do it in plenty of time so that you do not lose any deposit, remember your partner is on half his wage which you will need to survive after the wedding.
Remember your guests will eat and drink and be merry, they won't care that you will be paying for this some 5 years later.
If you were planning a Free Bar, get everyone to pay for their own drinks
Suits - Try M&S
Wedding Lunch - agree a cheaper menu
Wedding Cars - rope family and friends in
Honeymoon - Cancel until times are better
All this should cover about £2k

hi all
thanks for replies, we have spoken to the venue trying to get them to move the date of our wedding but they said we would have to pay a cancellation fee and lose the money we have already paid and start again paying for another date.
we have negotiated with them already to have guests pay for drinks and a cheaper meal option which in all saved about £1500.
we don't have a honeymoon booked as we knew we wouldn't be able to afford it, and we are not using rental cars, we cancelled our original photographer (£1200) for a cheaper photographer that mother in law agreed to pay for, she is also paying flowers, and my grandmother is paying for cake.
we are needing the money to pay £500 to the registrar (otherwise we cant be married), £600 to my wedding dress which we cant get out of paying because we signed a contract and to pay the full balance to the venue (£800) which at the moment we are paying £250 direct debit monthly. if we were to get the loan/ credit card this is the money we would be paying to cover their costs. we are also paying £126 monthly on wedding rings with the final payment on the first of july so this is also money that will soon become available to us.
i am well aware that that this is not a good way to start a marriage but when we signed up to the contracts in November 2011 we had an extra £1500 monthly coming in and thought that this would be permanent. life has a way of not working out all the time and we are trying to make the best out of a bad situation.
thank you for the helpful replies ! x0 -
Sounds like you'll have to get ebaying, or head for the pawn shop.
If you have any gold to sell, there is a link

That will give you a good price.

It sounds like you're pretty stuck in terms of cancelling things, but how about asking for money for wedding presents? Tell people you're up the proverbial creek without the paddle, and say it would really help for people to contribute to the costs of your big day rather than to buy you teapots and toasters.
Also, try selling things like your mobiles and buying a cheaper model to put your SIM card in, cancelling anything like Sky that might be eating your money, do the downshift challenge, and so on.
£2k isn't easy to find, but explore every avenue, and above all, enjoy the day!0 -
I do hope it works out for you! but maybe some of the tips on other areas of the site can help. Good luck
