Well I've bitten the bullet and booked my flight with flyglobespan.com return stansted - toronto £175.00. There's no way I would have been able to afford 'normal' prices. So I'll let you all know how the flight goes in May.

Just a quick note to mention that Zoom were fine when I used them 18-24 months ago for Stansted-Montreal and Toronto-Gatwick. Bit of a delay coming back, but that was because an AirFrance plane had burnt out the day before and closed one runway. I'd decided against booking Canadian Affair because it looked like the MyTravel aircraft aren't big enough to be comfortable for me for that distance. Air Transat didn't have much available. I'd recommend considering Zoom.
  • Hiya, first time post so I'll try and be gentle.

I have just returned from Canada on a business trip and, trying to save the company some money, I used flyglobespan for the cross-Atlantic portion of the flight into Hamilton.

I had to get to Quebec eventually, so I had booked the internal flights (Hamilton, Montreal, Quebec) through Air Canada.

From the off, the trip was a disaster. I checked in early at Manchester airport only to find a letter from the company stating that the flight had been delayed from 1.20 pm until 5 pm. This instantly rang warning bells, as this meant I would more than likely miss my connecting flights once in Canada.

A quick call to Air Canada proved me right and the flight I had from Hamilton to Montreal was the final flight of the day ... something to sort out once I was there I was told.

So anyway eventually the departure time approached and a group of us gathered around the screens which counted down the time until the gate opened. And waited. And waited. Five minutes to go - hooray!

It stayed on five minutes to go for fifteen minutes. Then changed to 20 minutes ...

Finally we got the all clear to go to the gate. So we did. Where we waited. And waited.

    And waited.

Eventually two guys turned up at the desk and when someone enquired as to the whereabouts of the plane, they were told that it had just landed and was making its way to the gate.

Then we were told (not as a group, you understand) that it was being cleaned. They must be cleaning it very well, as it was nowhere to be seen!

Eventually the plane turned up and we slowly boarded - nearly six hours late.

Given that it was a seven and a bit hour flight, I was astounded that they carried on as normal - no free drink (I had to practically beg for water), no apologies, nothing.

When we finally got to Hamilton I had to stay in a local motel and get the early morning flight out to Montreal and Quebec and eventually reached my destination a day late. A happy bunny I was not.

The flight back was just as bad - five and a half hour delay which turned into a six hour delay on a joint flight to Manchester and then on to Newcastle!

I expected some delay as I have flown budget before, but it was the sheer lack of communication and customer relations that really got my goat on this. I was planning to recommend that my business should consider this airline for the other Canadian trips this year, but they've blown that.

    Do they really not care?

Anyhoo - thanks from listening, I'm glad to get that off my chest.

I hate to say this, but 6 and 5 hour delays, you should count yourself lucky. Over the past two weekends most of the longhaul flights have been running more than 10 hours late, and Friday's Orlando Sanford-Glasgow flight actually made it back Saturday afternoon nearly 30 hours late. Just look at some of the airline review sites, its not a pretty picture.

The reason is lack of aircraft. They have launched all of these flights from all over the UK to Canada, without the aircraft to operate them, causing all these problems.

However, don't worry if you have flyglobespan flights booked, its not all bad news! They have arranged to lease 2 767s from an Italian airline, the first should arrive today, and the second next week. They are also leasing 2 757s from Icelandair, the first they have, the second will also be coming next week.

These extra aircraft should sort everything out, get them back on tract so they can have a really good summer

I flew last year to Canaries with flyglobespan and they were fine. They have since doubled their route network so I imagine they are working their aircraft to the max.
Just one thing irritated me, the hand luggage allowance was INCLUDED in the baggage allowance. So 20 KG included hand luggage. Im not sure if its the same on their Canadian/USA routes. Worth checking though
  • I flew with FlyGlobespan from Manchester to Hamilton return in May for my Honeymoon. Please listen to me when I teel you that using this airline is not worth the money you will save. For a transatlantic service they are terrible. Both journeys were delayed with no notification to the waiting passengers, the crew couldn't care less and the planes are old, dirty and scary. It is as bad as everyone says. If they have the 767's maybe things would improve. I will never fly atlantic on a 757 again - we were originally told that we would be on a 767 - guess they haven't got them yet. BEWARE!!!!!
