I found leg room OK (including on the night flight back) and I'm 6ft 2. I have however seen some comment on the web that the extra cost of premium economy in Zoom is worth it.0

Indeed, Canadian Affair offer an upgrade for about £50 one way. This includes more legroom and a separate cabin (no queues for the loo) and a bigger luggage allowance of 30kg rather than 20kg. Well recommended!
Note Air Transat based flights charge around £100 one way for premium.Lack of money is the root of all evil.

Martin suggests going by rail into the US. Be warned that Amtrak time keeping makes our trains look fab! Before we went I checked the time keeping of the train we intended catching on the Amtrak website. It always seemed to be late and on one occasion it was late by NINE HOURS. This would give a midnight arrival in New York instead of the timetabled 3 pm. As we were travelling straight on to my sister in Connecticut this would have caused all sorts of problems besides the unappealing prospect of arriving in New York at midnight looking like grockles (as we say in Devon).
Instead, having "done" Niagara we crossed the border at Rainbow Bridge and flew US Air from Buffalo (approx 30 minute taxi journey).
We did the Toronto - Niagara leg by Coach Canada - no problems.
Dont bother with rail journeys over there - waste of time. If you're going to do the buffalo trip then get from pearson to toronto, then in down town toronto then get yourself a Go Bus! down to St Catharines/Niagara & then cross the border that way - much easier & cheaper!
Be warned though the customs on the border are the biggest idiots around (that & detroits). Seems to lack the braincells & common sense normal people have!0 -
i think flyglobespan are great the staff are fantasic, they will do there best to help you, and for a budget airline they are much better then the other ones out there. you can fly no frills, premuim or business class and the prices are great, yeah they may fly via places, but it tells you on the internet before you book if its direct or via somewhere. Ive flown loads with them and if any schedual changes occurs, well im sorry but they are a schedual airline and time changes do happen to every airline.
again i think there fab, and would recomend them to anyone.i love this site0 -
Has anyone travelled to Toronto on a shoestring/student type budget?
I'd really like to take advantage of the flyglobespan offer in May but have not budgeted for a holiday this year so I need it to be as cheap as possible.
I have found a great hostel that's only £10 per night (http://www.canadianalodging.com/index.php) and a trip to Niagara for £25.
Is it possible to have a great time in Toronto without much money?!?

I have just returned from a ten day trip to Canada (Calgary) flying with Air Canada so slightly off topic I am afraid however I managed to get the return trip for £290. There was a price war a few months ago with BA and Air Canada who now compete on the Heathrow-Calgary route (although BA do not fly Sunday or Thursday)...great food, good service, A330-300s so no seatback IFE but good films nonetheless.
Have a look at competing airlines on certain routes (e.g if BA have a sale then usually Air Canada will reduce prices to match) and also check direct with charter airlines who sometimes have better deals that booking with Canadian Affair (I check C.Affair first then use their flight timetable to check the charter prices).0 -
great spotIt's nice to be important but it's important to be nice!
If u think my post has been helpful, push my 'thanks' button cheers

I have been using Canadian affair for many years. They have always had the best prices I can find on flights and on hotels too. They have very good prices to lots of Canadian destinations.

Be careful since Canadian Affair have started using AirTransat for some flights. From experience AirTransat were absolutely diabolical and we will not be flying with them ever again. Our fligts to Toronto were booked via Globespan so be careful of them too. The whole plane (both directions) were complaining and most of us were all used to long haul flights. Zoom seem to be the best option.0 -
When I booked my flight through Globespan previously it was a Air Transit flight that we ended up on. The worst flight of my life and I've been on lots of long hauls and the whole plane was in uproar (on the way and on the way back) re the attitudes of the staff, time delays, condition of the planes, food, lack of soft drinks I could go on but I can't remember all the complaints that were detailed in my 3 page complaint letter - of which I never recieved a reply.0

Thanks to the OP for this, we've booked for a family of four, Manchester to Toronto, in May for £785 all in. We've meals outbound but not coming back as it's a 10pm return flight !!!!
Only thing to note is that JC Munro/Hamilton airport only has National, Avis & Hertz as your car rental options, we've booked 9 days for £160.10 with National so its still not bad
i recommend hotwire for hotels in downtown Toronto, got three nights at a 4* Delta hotel for £108 and it was dead easy to spot which hotel it was before booking it
enjoy0
