They seriously need to get a grip in their lives rather than tootling between work and somerfields and home

In what way are all these people suffering? I live in a middling area and see no sign of it.

Yes, I live in an affluent area, in a large detached house, but I do get out and about ...... no need to visit 'rough' areas of course - but, wherever I look I see wealth, plenty of work and plenty of money.

It just requires a bit of detective work.

Don't look for signs of wealth. Look for growth in areas normally associated with money problems.

The radio and tv is awash with ads of payday loans, logbook loans, cash converters, insolvency and debt management services. These people would not advertise if the market is not there. It's clear cashflow is an issue for a lot of people.

Who do you think employs a Consultant? Yes, correct, a Company .......... think before engaging typing finger, it will stop you looking very unintelligent.

generally speaking self employed consultants tend to be employed by themselves.

And conclude that this means that there is no recession.

If the economy contracts 1% over the next 12 months (by a little each quarter), then we are in recession, yes ? I'm sure that if I then wander down any high street in decent areas, I'll see restaurants and bars doing good business. I'll see certain shops with queues at the checkouts. Venture a little further away from the high street, I bet I'd see "SOLD" signs. I'd be intelligent enough not to conclude that there is no recession, or even question that there is one, based on what I have seen.

You'd still see all that stuff if the economy contracted by 10%, or in fact anything other than 100%.
