I see round two, a disaster in the same sense as 2008. I can feel it in my bones.
Its just on the edge at the moment. Some big wigs have a lot to say about how to get out of it, but im not sure anyone really knows.

The evidence I see around me in my city is a growing preponderance of coffee and sandwich shops at the expense of the closure of multitudinous over-expensive clothes shops.
Now, we could argue that this is just swapping one way to waste your income with another, but the fact is they are being replaced, which at least suggests some stability in the local economy. Whether this is reflected across the country, I don't know, but it is my perception of life in the neighbouring counties. Obviously, I don't know about incomes, but spending / high street activity is a reasonable measure of seeing how much disposable income people have, especially on discretionary items like sandwiches (although I haven't compensated for the fact I also observe that those closest to their overdraft limit also are more generally likely to buy sandwiches they can't afford..).
As for the technical term of recession being two successive periods of shrinkage, that is true. Practically I'd regard the level of shrinkage so close to zero that I could have massaged the figures a bit and put a plus sign in front of it and no-one would have been able to tell the difference.
Point being that as a measure you are using figures which you know with precision, but with little accuracy, and the absolute is so small compared to the error it is pointless trying to make much out of it..0 -
People spending their redundancy on opening a coffee/sandwich shop. They must be doing well there are loads of them. Lets wait and see how long these shops last.0

They must be doing well you said ... there are loads of them .... then, when challenged, you say there are loads for sale.

Went out for a day in the sun - thought I would look for the oldest car I could find (I was driving my fun car, an M Reg. Classic) .... ignoring my own wheels ... the oldest car was a 59 Reg.
