"The Foursquare app stopped unexpectedly (com.joalapenna.foursquared). Try again."

    Hopeless - and uninstalling/reinstalling doesn't help, either.

Do we know yet whether two Amex cards on the same account can get two separate cases of each deal?

It has just allowed both my wife and I to sign up separately to Foursquare and link separate credit card numbers, I guess we just have to wait and see whether Amex actually allow the deals to go through twice.

The line 'statement credit' does imply to me that it's per actual account, not card, but worth I try I suppose.

Initially, it did not strike me the whole concept of this Foursquare thingy. I hope I am not alone. Could someone plese tell me whether I am doing the right thing here in the logical sequence.

    a) Create a Foursqaure account (email as user id )
    b) Link your amex card to the Foursquare account (make sure use the same same email as user id in step a) using the link https://sync.americanexpress.co.uk/Foursquare/Index

    c) Download the foursquare app to your mobile/device and then login-in using step a) credentials created ( Note: Foursquare app uses your device' GPS/ Assisted-GPS info send by the network) . So basically it knows your location to display "offers"

    d) Open the Foursquare app on your device. Do the "check-in" thing (For those who wonder - this is a Foursquare application jargon) and unlock the offer (shown as "specials" in orange colour). Basically what you are doing here is registering your interest on the offer. Please note: I do not see a "load to the card" option showing on the app as it says in the Amex website on my Nokia. I think this is probably an old terminology..

    e) Use your card at the retailer (for e.g spend something on House of Fraser using your sync'ed Amex card in step b and after registering your interest at step e)

    f) wait for the credit to appear on the statement (for e.g £10 in this case at HoF) . Enjoy the free tenner!

I hope the above steps will make it work? Also, this is one off per offer. Thanks folks and I hope I get a tenner back for todays purchase at the Frasers.. Will let you knowafter also after trying the same steps a to f on missus add-on card!.

    Cheers

Has anyone tried it with the MBNA Amex rewards card? Thats the one with 1.5% cashback card.

I registered foursquare on Fri 07/06 evening, sync successfully with my MBNA Amex the on Sat 08/06 afternoon after a long confusion of understanding how this thing works.
Straight away went to my local Tesco, but couldn't find the Amex deal, the same for today. Wonder has it gone?
I checked-in and unlocked ok with PizzaExpress and Nandos Sunday, will have to wait to see it it pays.

The Tesco offer has disappeared for me too.
  • Hi hpuse,

All the steps look good except d) once you press the 'load to card' button it gives you a successful message - if you don't do this I don't think it'll work...but let me know if it does!

    Hi Jessi

In my nokia(symbian) foursqaure app, it comes as "tap to redeem" - so I guess it basically means 'load to card' may be it varies between devices/apps/ and its operating system ?

Will let you know if it works !

Still having no joy getting the amex deals to show up in the android 4sq app.
They show on the web app on my PC (tesco, nando and primark).
But on the android app, the amex deals are missing. In fact, it doesn't even show the retailers!

I could be stating the obvious to you and excuse me if I am but as i'm new to smartphone apps it's something I recently sussed out with another app i'd downloaded.

Anyway, have you allowed your phone to use GPS for apps? On my phone its within settings and then 'location and security' and then I had to tick 'Use wireless networks - see location in applications (such as Maps) using wireless networks'.

For check-in you do need to use your mobile/device. The check-in/unlock/tap to redeem option is not available via 4sq website.

Are you sure you have enabled GPS /A-GPS on your phone. ?. your phones has to know where your location to display the map and show the offers/specials
