I was planning on dropping another £25 to £275 for July, but since I have no idea if I will be needing lots of taxis and buses again, think I will stick to £300 again.

My July challenge will start on July 1st so I will pop back again and post then, will stay on the June thread for now.
  • Thanks JJ . Will give it a go later

    Chapatis done the JJ way:

Cllola, I would just use nice n cheap bird netting over the beds. It works great for me. It can be reused year in year out too so a neat little investment for future productive plantings!!!

Thanks for this - so simple!! You wouldn't believe the constructions I had visions of making!! This is much better plan :D

Today is my birthday ... Very impressed with my birthday pressie from DH and the kiddies - a blueberry bush!

Happy Birthday! Assume that you know blueberries need ericaceous (sp) soil (low pH, acidic soil), so if you have chalky, lime soil you will need to keep it in a pot. HTH.

Right all. Just got in and we were FAMISHED!!!!

We had LO LO curry for dinner earlier with chips as it was quick n easy.
We were foraging all afternoon then I took the kids to an evening class.
Just got back in and they were ravenously hungry. They did something I never normally let them do and that is have cereal to bridge the gap til the pasta is ready.

I am now gonna wash a colanderful of Italian flat leaf parsley from the garden which I'm going to make into a quick n easy pesto for the pasta.

I know that a few people have mentioned growing things in a small garden, well parsley is like a perennial bush in one of my beds. I've learnt to use it to the full recently. Grow some!!!! You will NOT regret it. It intensifies the flavour of whatever savoury dish you add it to. :j
My favourite way of using it is the recipe I'm about to do. It is the star ingredient. If you have some olive oil, parsley, a clove or two of garlic and a strong cheese for grating with a bowl of cooked pasta.... Well, simple pleasures don't come much more easily!

Edit: 15 mins later we are now eating it...

Later I'm going to do something else with the rose petals and elderflowers. Not sure whether to go for a cordial or a jelly using both flavours together??????

Hi Im in for £300 again for July- 2 adults, 1 cat- all food, eating out, cleaning and toiletries but not booze!

Lets hope I can get somewhere near £300 this month

I have a veg plot in my garden I have had for about 5 years and I must say this is the worst year ever for growing stuff- the rain just never ends- even my bean plants look kn*ckered and these practically grow themselves

However this week I have had loads of strawberries :D you just cant beat HG strawberries!!

If anyone manages to grow beetroot there are some lovely beetroot hummus receipes out there
