  • Elsiepac - well done on your new job!

LizPaul - could you make cheese and red onion quiche to use up the onions? Not sure about the honey yoghurt but perhaps you could drizzle it over some fruit?

I've spent £78/£80 so far this week, I forgot I had some people coming to lunch tomorrow and so that may mean I go a little bit over this week. I've looked at all my options and can't seem to feed them only with what I have in so will need to buy some bits. Going to make cake today though so that will save a bit as I have ingredients in - before doing this challenge, I would have just bought one.

I've taken to making flapjack as both DH and eldest DS like to take it with their packed lunch and was surprised and pleased when DH said he likes it better than shop bought stuff - he's very fussy so praise indeed ;).

I'm still hanging onto my 9.66 that I have left. Tea last night was sausages in philli (ald1's version) tomato sauce with pasta and very nice it was too. All from things I had in.

Tonight is chilli, rice and garlic bread, again stuff I have in.

Puddings are yoghurts with fruit which I have in, tinned in reserves.

Tomorrow shall be egg night as we have chickens - no spending there. Then I don't know about thurs - too far away yet and I haven't meal planned which is naughty.

So I plan on holding onto my 9.66 until at least thurs! May not have enough fruit for packed lunches :s

I have a delivery coming today with a £19.66 spend on bits and pieces. In general though I'm really pleased we have managed to stick to a much more frugal way of cooking and shopping, and hope to do better next month although I might have to up my budget a bit with 2 children in the house for a month, they never seem to stop eating and I have to get lots of fruit in to make sure it's not totally unhealthy.

Interesting to note that I'm not the only one with a mouldy bread problem. I think its the weather, the air is so damp. I bought pita bread instead this week. I tend to buy bread as a fall back in case my daughter doesn't eat her meal and I can give her toast which seems to be happening less now. OH hates me buying supermarket sliced loaf anyway, so that will be one less thing in our basket from now on.

As predicted, I have made the first, of no doubt several, top-up shops this week. All breakfast things that got missed off the weekly shop - so £2.62 to add to my total bringing me to £114.73/£200.

Ok so i have about 17 - 20 dinners left in the freezer but i think the kids are getting bored of the same old spag bol, chicken curry, sausage casserole, chicken casserole, pasta and sauce i've got in the freezer. I've just been through my cupboards and listed what i have, i can't think of anything to make them.

    I have :

    1 egg,
    Pasta,
    Chicken flavored rice,
    herbs,
    gravy mix,
    lasagne sheets,
    chicken cup a soup,
    bread,
    baked beans,
    tuna,
    tinned toms,
    sandwich ham,
    spring onions,
    potatoes,
    carrots.

What can i make them for dinner, must be dairy free as one of my daughters can't have dairy.

Stir fry the spring onions, carrots and shredded sandwich ham with some spicy herbs (if you have spicy ones) and a bit of the juice from the tinned toms (reserve the toms for another meal).

Boil up the rice and then stir in the egg until it's cooked.

Voila - quick egg fried rice and stir fry!

Or just plain old beans on toast :)
