Tenth Anniversary 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker
Well I confess that I only visit the forums every day (after finding the button for daily posts - which I think only took me a year to notice!)
I enjoy the different topics and have learnt a lot as well.
I found this wonderful site by chance after hearing Martin on the radio, did a search and have been getting the e.mail ever since, so I don't understand why I would need to visit the main site, unless I want to search for something!

Martin will you still be labelling yourself as independant?

Will you still be on BBC?

What did MS mean in their statement when they said the site will keep independant status? How can it be independant when owned by a corporation?

Well done Martin you gamed us all and made it like you were doing everyone else a favour! Free advertising for your site via the BBC, etc. Not once saying your site recieved commissions (lots of). I wonder whether the staff who run the site will be getting any of the dough?
Well it will be more difficult for you to moan about Bankers bonuses etc when you've had one and to tell how people to scrimp and save. That will seem just plain partonising!

I admire your cleverness if someone offered me £87m I would have took it! I hope you do share some of the proceeds with the staff. Now that would be philanthropic, but that's up to you.

And I suppose your not the only one in the media who is a multi-millionaire in the media being stern and saying how terrible austerity is...

It's actually quite funny. Good luck to you. Please do something good with the money.
The sites revenue has never been a secret.

The release says the staff share the spoils. (And rightly so)

Are you really so weak that you need an AE to post?

PS As for people making nasty remarks about my wife, nasty remarks about anyone aren't welcome on this forum. Thankfully I haven't seen them, but thank you to those who have reported them. I consider them to be a "request to leave the site" and I'm sure my forum team will grant that request

Its taken death threats before the forum team removed someone from teh forum before, but if its your wife, you get them to act?

Why can you not apply the same rule to everyone, its been a free for all on the insult side for years - yet you do not like it when it is aimed at you?

It really is a shame your team, and yourself dont apply the rules fairly.

Its fine for people on this site to slag off millions of people on a regular basis, or get personal about another poster, but you draw the line at your wife...

Its no good saying "nasty remarks about anyone aren't welcome on this forum" when it is clear from what actually goes on that you and your team do not enforce that ethos.

It gets to the stage where as your team do not act, people have to return insults just to cope...
[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

I say good luck to you, Martin.

I've benefited from your advice on the main site main times, which is my default research for anything financial - can't believe that other forumites don't use it.

I'm also grateful for advice, and some fun, from posters.

BTW: as MSM refer us to many companies, i don't imagine there'll be much of a problem.

IMutial with Richard Yendall. I wont say anything but rpoints.com, people lost loads of money. umm personally I would run from that site!

Not wanting to get into personalities but...

Everyone is allowed to make mistakes and as I read it he was not in charge when any mistakes were made. I have lost money on lots of things over time (including Rpoints) would not mean I would not give people a chance to make amends and this does seem from what I have read Richard wants to do.

What Rpoints taught me was get money out as soon as it is available and never use a site that has a huge minimum payout (many have a £25 min will not use these any more).

The new company set-up is 90% owned by the users I am sure if there was to be some changes to the site then it would be appropriate for the majority owners to have representation to make sure it is run in an appropriate way.

I am not talking about leaving the site as it is but making some fundamental changes to it but using the existing 90/10 split to do this.

hang on a minute. A now banned poster compared my daughter to a prostitute and said she deserved to be raped because she plans to go into medical research. I reported the posts (one of the few times I've ever reported posts) they were deleted very quickly and not long after the poster was PPR'd.

The abuse team do a good job, but even they are only human and sometimes things will slip past them.

My passion is undimmed - and as strong as ever. The whole aim of this is to free me up to be able to do more of teh campaigning work I love and that fires me rather than managing a website

    Martin

If this is the case why then did you only give the £10m tax dodge to charity rather than take a reasonable sum (£2-5m) for yourself and put the rest into a charitable trust?

No-one begrudges you (and your staff who deserve a bonus) a decent sum from your efforts but this is an obscene amount of money.

Your mouth is saying one thing your actions are saying something totally different.

    all of course in MHO

I second this, I think MSE team do a great job.

I missed all that Looby, awful for you and your daughter :( . I cannot get why people cannot debate without namecalling. Even on this topic the names/venom have been awful.

I have made clear that I do not like this and feel ML has lost credibility but why people sink to the level of name calling or even worse says more about them than anyone else. The AEs popping up to abuse are also an insult to the regular users against this deal.
