Sold as seen car - vehicle tax

Hi all,
Recently purchased a car and has been paid for by cheque. The vehicle was "sold as seen", although no receipt was given, nothing was signed.
The vehicle at point of sale had tax on it to end of Oct 2012.
Anyway, have received a text a few hours after purchasing which goes along the lines of, "this is a bit embarrassing but X forgot to take the tax disc out of the car, can you bring it on X day when I give you the V5C so we can get the refund?" (Before you say anything, the V5C is coming - but I don't foresee any issues as we are colleagues and at this point, have plenty of time to cancel the cheque).
My question is; if the vehicle is indeed sold as seen, warts and all, then surely it has to work the other way around too, so should we be entitled to the tax?

If it was sold as seen, and you saw the tax disc and took its value into account when making your offer, then you can argue that it was part of the deal, and if not you want a refund of part of the purchase price in exchange for (what is now) your tax disc.0

Was it advertised with the tax? If not, they could argue the car was indeed sold as seen, but not including anything left in it by mistake. Or would you keep the childseats if they left them in by accident, or the cd in the cd player? If you have no receipt saying sold as seen, it's down to the advert, and whatever it said there regarding the tax.0

Well, the tax disc was in the car when the car was initially seen and at POS (two separate occasions). We had no reason to believe it wasn't part of the sale - so therefore assumed it was, but neither party bought the question up.0

So was it in the advert?0

Are you talking about £200 of tax on a £300 car, or £20 on a £10000 car?0

There was no advert...0

No advert, no receipt, It depends on how well you know them, and how well you want to. They can still put in a claim for a refund and declare the tax disk missing.0 -
