Thanks everyone.
Had a good look through a few of my books last night at the reccomended recipes and going to start making a few this week.
Tommorrow i'm going to start with the raisin loaf (HFW)and the roast shoulder of pork (economy Gastronomy). One midweek dinner is going to be the bolagnaise rissotto (Nigella, the kids will love this recipe). Cant decide which cake to try from the hummingbird book as they all look so nice so might start with a really easy one.
I keep coming back to the ham in cola but never been brave enough to try it, is it really that nice? We love baked ham but couldn't forgive myself if i ruined it.
It's gorgeous.
We have loads of people here over Christmas & everyone loves it.
All son's friends love it to.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
I too have too many cook books - although not the nigella one.
Could someone post the recipe for bolognaise risotto and the cola ham pls>?0 -
I've bought a few books now, and haven't used any
I even bought the Take away one & haven't used that either. I really will make the effort now though, especially as the cold weathers on the way.

Oh, I am interested in this thread as I was just thinking the same thing this week as I stared at the two full shelves of cookery books I have. I have some Nigella ones, the Jamie Oliver, the Hairy Bikers, someone bought me Gordon Ramsay's wife family cook book, I have economy gastronomy and never made anything from it yet. To me it is daunting to ask for the cuts of meat at a butcher as I am not too good with what it's all called, iykwim?
I was thinking of picking one or two new recipes a month or so and see how it went.
Is the Riverside family cooking one a good book with "normal" not too ponsy recipes where you need lots of ingredients you never heard of and have to spend a fortune.0 -
If you've got Nigella's How to Eat, I can heartily recommend the Beef Stew with Thyme & Anchovies. It was the first meal I cooked for Mr A, and look what happened. From her Kitchen book, can also recommend the Spring Chicken and the Chicken Teriyaki.
If you all ask nicely, I'll post my secret recipe for Chilli con Carne, which Mr A says is the best he's ever tasted......Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

OOH I'm jealous of all your cooking books:). I love reading recipe books and regularly borrow them from the library to see which I would use but then never end up buying them...new resolution I must start because I love trying new recipes. First on the list will be Jamies 30 min meals, Ottelengi, a new Nigel Slater book ( I love him) and Nigella Express. I cook several from Nigella Express already including her brownie recipe which I copied into my recipe book when I had it out the library- they're yummy. I own very few books, I regularly buy Delicious mag and do try recipes from them every month. When I cook with DD we often use her Sam Stern, teenage cooking book. Some of the recipes are yummy, especially the Chickpea burgers. I also use a slow cooker recipe book I picked up at a carboot for 50p.Grocery challenge October: £228.28/£250.00 NSD 4 ( not completed)

My addiction is soo bad that I have over 100 cookbooks. Self imposed rule is only to buy them from charity shops now and not pay more than a few pounds for each.
It is kind of working, but I know it wont last.... sigh0 -
