  • Which cookery book do you have that you use the most and that you find the most useful for making money saving meals or planning daily meals?

I have hundreds of cookery books and am totally obsessed with them however I find that most of them only get used to cook a couple of recipes.

Recently I bought Economy Gastronomy and have found that I have cooked over half the recipes and it has changed the way I plan and cook meals.

I love finding recipes on here but there is something about a cookery book which excites me and I would love to find out which ones you all love too.

The best one I've got for meal planning and stretching food is an old "Practical Cookery For All" that belonged to my MIL, I think it's from the 1950's.

I love to get the book out just to read through, some of the recipes are great although I haven't tried boiling a calf's head!

If you have a love of food like Granny made or a love of old books, it's a fantastic read.

    This is the book:

I've got many recipe books but most of the things I make are recipes from this forum!

    T'internet....
  • any 70's cookbooks - they generally make suggestions for leftovers/food that is past its best but still edible and don't have too many herb/spice ingredients (unlike modern cookbooks which seem to list at least 5 per recipe) which massively push up the cost.

    Hi Jennieshrew:beer:

I have recently purchased Ministry of food which is fantastic. Also the hairy bikers Mums know best. I love buying older books from charity shops too - invaluable and irreplacable! Got my neighbour a really good kids cooking one from the 80s which she loved as it explains everything in detail (and had "loads of pictures!"):D:j

There are threads where people have had a lot of discussion about their favourite recipe books

    Recipe book recommendations please

What is your favourite cookery book and why?

    Recommend an old style book

I'll add your thread to the first one later, so we can keep all the suggestions together

    Cheers
