If the wisdom tooth isn't causing a problem, there's probably no reason to trouble it.

thanks i didn't realise that:) i really dont mind if it has to come out as i am plenty wise:rotfl:.

..so i decided to look on youtube to see how they put braces in!!! (i'm trying to learn as much as poss!)..

is it just me or whenever i'm at dentists/have my mouth held open etc etc i get a little panicky thinking i'm going to choke/suddenly cough or something and then i cant stop needing to swallow? does that make sense? thats my only concern about orthodontic work right now..
    totally a tog!:D

Hi positivelymummy I had lower brace put on on 1st march. had a suction thingy put in mouth, so no saliva to drown on. was all quick and simple.
Although braces rubbed alot for couple of weeks. i used oragel to numb it a bit
eating soft food for first weeks was my only option.
No problems so far, and don't really know i have them in there.
Have to get teeth removed on friday.(upper left n right 4's) not looking forward too. then getting started on top teeth. just the canines back at first.
my lower right wisdom tooth has brace on it as has partially erupted. the lower left is still buried in there.
THANKS to everyone who posts competitions. you are all :A.

My impacted wisdom tooth was left in too, I was warned that it might move during treatment (It wasn't wired in) and become bothersome, but although it became more visable, it never caused any problems so its staying put!

  • just a quick update before i forget..the hospital phoned me yesterday (thats where the orthodontic clinic is) and i have an appointment on 21st june:j they said it would be a 20 min consultation, i have already had impressions done and x rays, so i'm not really quite sure what to expect.

i'm mega excited tho and keeping everything crossed that they will agree to give me braces:D

i will update this again after my appointment:)

i had my consultation today, he did lots of measuring etc and reading out stuff to his assistant which i didn;t understand!! he asked if i was happy to wear braces!! "of course!" and he asked if i was healthy on any meds/illnesses/heart probs etc..all fine there too.

good news is i probably will be getting a brace at some point, :T

down side is i have early signs of gum disease on my 2 front teeth and also the one next to it (which is the very crooked one so really hard to clean as its practically half behind my front tooth) he has referred me back to the dentist to get the hygenist to give my teeth a good scale, all the other teeth are good, just the 3 i mentioned. he seems to think it could be about 3 to 4 months before they are ok and explained the importance of mega healthy teeth and gums before a brace. so it could be another 6 months before i see him again,

he'll also speak to me then about how the brace could work, he explained that sometimes straightening the top teeth cause them to protrude a bit? so he could either take bits of my teeth off? i think he meant like shaving/filing? or maybe 2 teeth could come out instead.

and thats about it for today..happy it went well, lovely guy, quite gutted about the 3 teeth but hopefully i can get it under control very quickly:)
    totally a tog!:D
