Hi, I guess this is mostly for toothsmith, but I was after a rough guide of what to expect time and cost wise.
I've got crooked top teeth on 1 side from thumbsucking as a child. I'd like my teeth straight someday but suspect it will cost lots and take ages. Can you give me a rough idea of costs (know you can't be exact not knowing my teeth but nice to know if looking at 1,000s, 10,000's etc and a rough guide of how many).
Also, how long does treatment take for these sorts of things?
Are the invisible braces possibly an option? (work with customers so don't really want train tracks unless they're loads cheaper or loads quicker).
Thank you.
It's really hard to say without seeing you - and even then, I'm not an orthodontist!
It really would be best to arrange to see an orthodontist, then the information is specific to you, and not just guesses. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Thanks Pennywatcher and Toothsmith. Looks like I better get saving - £75 just to visit an orthadontist :O0

I need a brace, since getting my top wisdom teeth one of my front teeth has been pushed out and now sticks out, am very conscious of it, especially as I had lovely teeth before this0

Hello!
I have back lower teeth that are moving/bending in toward my tongue! Very strange apparently. I have been quoted 3k for just a bottom outer fixed brace, 4k to do top and bottom and 6k if I want lingual. It seems a hell of a lot more expensive than other people's experiences on here. Does this seem normal? (Ortho is in West London). I am desperately trying to figure out a way to get the money together, but can't right now.
Oh yeah my consult cost £80 but did involve lots of x rays and pics.
EDIT- does anyone know if you can have them removed for a week for wedding? ie mine?! Or am I being ridiculous?0 -
I didn't pay a consultation fee for my DD. They may have been on the NHS as I was referred by my dentist for assessment and recalled when she had lost all her first teeth.
I have paid in full the £2500 now for DD braces. They were due to come off this week but at her appointment he told her that 2 of her teeth were slightly out. He gave her the choice of keeping the braces on for a couple more months or going with them as they are as you have to look very closely to see they are not "perfect". DD chose to keep the brace on, which I'm pleased about (she goes into examination room alone) as I feel we've committed so much todate that we might as well go for the best possible result.
The fee I paid was for the cycle of treatment which he estimated would be 18-24 months. She has the metal braces with bright colour pads/wires and was happy wearing them for months but she really wanted them off by September.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Have been to see the orthodontist.
i am 31, my teeth are very crooked to me, and am uncomfortable as teeth stick out the front, and some are pushed inward. this crowdeing happened when i was 29, when my upper left canine erupted,
Anyway, due to my mum having cancer and surgery etc, my teeth had to wait.
Have been told will get the clear plastic brackets on top, and metal on bottom, for 18 months.
have asked for purple bands lol,
can you still floss with braces? i have bought some inter dental thingies, and they are too big to fit in the lack of gap between my upper l1 and ur1.
i want to keep my teeth as clean as i possibly can.
any advise will be gratefully received.
i stopped eating chocolate 3 months ago, and rarely now have anything with sugar in it. i drink water.
i do have smoothies and fruit, but wash mouth out with water after.
have been waiting 9 month for my dentist to give me an appointment for scrap eand polish, she said i need it. have had alot of problems with dentist, but at least i have one.
not looking forward to having 2 upper premolars removed.
i have an nhs dentist, do i get teeth removed on nhs? (scotland)
this thread has been very interesting. and helpful.
i have been quoted £3000 for the treatment, which i am guessing is actually a good price.
can't wait to have teeth that don't point out at all angles. AND all fit/bite nicely :0)
i shall stop boring anyone who reads this now.THANKS to everyone who posts competitions. you are all :A.0 -
woohoo! after years of asking my dentist today has finally referred me to the orthodontis!! i've just turned 38 and i should have had them as a teenager (but refused like a silly madam) i had bad overcrowding, all my 4 overcrowded teeth were removed when i was about 17 or 18 but my ugliest tooth is one that kind of sits behind where the upper cannine was (if that makes sense)..
anyway, i asked and expected to be fobbed off (i have posted on this thread before) but he stunned me by saying no probs and took impressions there and then and then sent me over to the hospital for an x ray which they did straight away, so this week the referral letter will be on its way and i will have to wait (and keep this thread updated) of what happens next.
of course i had a sneaky peak of my x ray (like you do!) and i see my impacted wisdon tooth that i have heard the dentist mention before..i presume that will have to come out...but i'm pretty positive about that (i say niavely!)
no idea about the cost yet, i know the impressions today were about £17.00 and i haven't been billed for the x ray yet.
i'm just chuffed to bits that the ball is rolling:Dtotally a tog!:D0 -
If the wisdom tooth isn't causing a problem, there's probably no reason to trouble it.How to find a dentist.
