i was told when i was referred that i could wait up to 12 months for my initial consultation - that was at the start of January so i'm quite impressed so far. I'm hoping that the ball will keep rolling after the first appointment - the stop/start thing would drive me mad.

Would be interested to hear how much people here have paid for their adult braces.

I've paid £2500 for DD braces (upper and lower metal). She hasn't had to have any teeth removed as initially thought - they were going to remove the front lower one that protruded badly but it suddenly decided to line up!

I asked my daughter's orthodontist about adult braces (my daughter had a fixed metal brace upper and lower yesterday), he said the cost for metal is £1500, had a quick look at my teeth and said I would need a couple removed, so I would imagine that would be another charge from my dentist.

My daughter has woken up with ulcers today, poor thing, she's getting to grips with putting the wax on.

Would be interested to hear how much people here have paid for their adult braces.

i was quoted £100 initial consultation, and £3000 for upper and lower metal. and more for ceramic.hth

  • I seem to go through periods when I have more discomfort, this is ones of those times, on the plus side, it means everything is moving in the right direction and wax is a godsend!

    Hi Choccyface:D

I remember when you first had your braces fitted. Must be two years ago now.

My DD had her fixed brace removed a year ago now. She had to wear a retainer but was told after 6 months that she no longer needed to wear it. Her teeth have started to move back again. I am now wondering if she needs to go back to the orthodontist.

Hope you will be having your brace removed soon.
    Take care

2 years 1 month now, with about 5 months left to go.

It was pretty complex yes, I had 6 extractions and some teeth have been shaped to look like other teeth but its looking good and I ABSOLUTLY am pleased I've done it, no doubts at all :)

Yes, not long to go now.

I will have a retainer for a year (nights only) I will probably wear it longer though, I have not gone through all this to let them slip back!

I am now wondering if my daughter should have worn hers for more than 6 months. She did do as she was told but now the retainer won't go over her teeth. Maybe a little movement is normal.

Good luck i bet you can't wait for yours to be removed. I remember when my DD came home without her brace for the first time and her teeth had been cleaned and polished. They looked perfect.:D

P.S Don't forget to post a pic of your perfect teeth.
