I have no problem with people posting how they feel about this situation but the amount of posts like the one I've quoted is ridiculous.
I kinda hope all of you that are so fed up with this sell off and feel the need to post nasty or biatchy comments like the one above, do sod off elsewhere. You'll not be missed.
Also, when Martin posts a dubious idea his followers are quick to approve.0 -
Martin revels off his brown nosers. It is sickening and many many people do agree with me (read the thread)

Who the hell do you think you are?! I've read the thread AND I've got my own mind!
I've already stated people should be free to post their opinion about the sell out but posting personal remarks like you did about what other people think is out of line.
Fact is people are free to believe whatever the hell they want. You need to be less concerned about what other people do or think.Herman - MP for all!0 -
My personal discomfort of this is if this site was just a blog or a personal site with articles and links would it have 19m visitors a month? Would we return to it everyday to see the latest offering from ML? I doubt it.
ML leveraged his work for Newspapers, radio and TV it provide content here but what really made the big bucks was us. The forum generated the return traffic whether it was for the weight loss posts or Swagbuck challenge like myself or the many other major/minor interest, challenges or help groups postings. It was our contributions both in content attracting people back and clicking affiliate links that gave this site its worth.
So bottom line ML sold us, or at least our continuing contributions and that is what bugs me.

Absolutely gutted. I would never trust anything on Moneysupermarket. Isn't there another entrepreneur out there who'd like to start up a replacement site?!0

I get that. And I think there is some weight to that argument.
But people seem to expect him to act like some sort of noble, altruistic God whose only concern should be staying a certain way just for us.
I find that strange. This place isn't ours. It's his business. To do with as he likes.
He doesn't know us, we're not his friends or family. We're just a bunch of strangers who came to a place he created, to talk to each other. Some people would just have sold up and not given a toss about the place thereafter, at least he's done what he could in terms of trying to put things in place to keep things as they are, yet (some) people are already kicking off as if these things have already failed.
It remind me of kids who fall over and start screaming immediately before they even know if it actually hurts or not. At least wait until you know for sure!Herman - MP for all!0 -

Entrepreneurs will want a return and therefore means selling out in some form.
If Martin issued shares to the forumites, I suspect it would have been a very expensive process. Also who is to say some financial firm wouldn't make an eye watering offer. Now you could say we are staunch forumites we would never sell. But you don't know about the other share owners. Maybe their circumstances dicatate that they need the money so even though they wouldn't want to sell, they end up selling.
What you need is a philanthropist. Nearest philanthropist could be Martin. He is probably precluded from starting a rival site, so maintaining some sort of editorial control could be the least worst way forward.

To think of it, many people switch careers - turn into a nun, return to education, scientist choose to become a hippy and homeless, and even pathetic and worse - a leftie
a businessman turn politician, leave family life to go to meditate in himalayas and what not. Siddhartha was a prince turned beggar who left his kingdom and young family for soul seeking. Sale of a site to focus on other aspects of consumer championship is no different I suppose.
