just been to asda to get my 'monday shop', I'm still hoping to keep to £60 a week, but I'm not sure how realistic this is..
Spent nearly £30 today, my list was for about £20 of stuff so i'm abit disappointed, having said that, I got a reduced chicken that will do for tea and eldests sandwiches for 2 days this week, and the rest can go into a soup-and for this i also bought a bag of veg-will portion up the soup and freeze for lunches etc.
Also managed to get 18 free range eggs for £2, cheaper than stall I've been getting them from..also included a jar of coffee that I hadnt budgetted for-that will last for over 2 weeks..so maybe it wasnt too bad as I have got 2 meals that I hadnt planned on

    here's hoping...
    Budget for Jan/Feb £240 per 4 weeks
Week 1-£52  Week 2-£75
    Week 3-£60.66 :confused:Week 4-£29.98 Total=£217.58
    w/c 18th Feb: £6.50

    Good Aternoon All

Just caught up with this thread, wow it moves fast.

No spend for us over the weekend. Will probably need more milk, fruit and veg in a few days so will wait until we run out and then pop to shops for more.
OH on lates this week so it gives me the opportunity to bake things and try and hide them before he sees;) .
Used up some old bananas and made some banana and chocolate muffins that OH loves.

Am in South Yorkshire and we have a morrisons, tesco and lidl resonably close to us but use tesco mostly. i do go to morrisons every 2 weeks or so to have a look at whats on offer. I try not to take OH with me as i find that I end up with things that we did not really need and I get the shopping done twice as quick. But OH loves to go shopping, so I have to give in and let him tag along ( even if only occasionally:rolleyes: )

  • Hi Everyone.
Had my teenage nephew over for the weekend and he's a very good eater but even he was picking up bargins in tesco whilst discussing animal welfare as he did. Luckily we got some bacon and sausages that fulfilled both criteria, so I saved and he had a clean conscience. However its not always that easy is it?
Today picked up a few weekly bits at Mr Tesco. Went to website first to compare prices.
    Now spent £92.60/£200 Feb budget.
Looking ahead I think we'll beable to save just over £90 this month and I've already got alot of food for the 1st week of March so should save then.
Well done me!! Well done everyone!!! :T

Sig updated and off to read through the thread and catch up. Well done to everyone. Luckily for me regarding the challenge amount I don't count dog food as both dogs need a sack this week and my not-so-very-oldie-but-a-bit-stiffy has £25 a sack food.speechless-smiley-040.gif However, she has been on it for about a year and looks well on it.
Ok, off to read how all you lovelies have been doing

ps - DD has got us onto the poverty meal a week suggested by someone on the Lent thread so tonight it's beans on toast and then the donation goes off to our local homeless shelter. Thanks to whoever posted the idea!

i did batch cook lentil and tomato soup yesterday. Alas I don't think it came out too well since I couldn't find a recipe although there is a ton of it because I kept chucking in extra packs of passata to make it taste good and ended up adding too much oregano. I don't even really like oregano except in pizza sauce, don't know what I was thinking :(. Does anyone have a foolproof recipe by the way?

Just seen this - I use a recipe called something like River Nile Soup or Red Nile Soup from ?? recipezaar I think just google it and it will come up - I always do and haven't written it down- it has lemon juice in it, lentils and tomatoes and is fab
    Hope this helps!

Evening all, NSD here today but think I have spent more than enough to see the month out other than the usual bread/milk/fresh produce. To my utter delight, DS came home last night with a 10p wholemeal loaf! These are few and far between in our neck of the woods so it was like man returning from successful hunting trip! (I'm in southwest Scotland, we have a small Co-op here, a smallish Somerfields about 8 miles away and there are no grocery home deliveries for online shopping.) He didn't even want the 10p reimbursed!
The new timer works, so I can now happily leave the slow cooker on without fear of forgetting to switch it back off, and the freezer is still rather full. I'm really glad that people on here are noticing a difference with their budgets and finding they have money in the bank. That is BRILLIANT! Keep up all the good work!

PEA & HAM SOUP: I make the stock from water used to boil a ham joint (I prefer smoked ham) and then simmer with some grated carrots, chopped onion, split peas (green or yellow), salt and pepper. My fave, however, is ham & lentil, made as above but substitute the split peas for lentils. It's a bit quicker and the lentils don't need soaking overnight.
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

I thought I would try and read the posts each day so I won't get so far behind! A NSD for me too, and so will tomorrow be.

We have just enjoyed a really tasty meal of leftovers - the remains of yesterday's beef thinly sliced and covered in leftover gravy and popped in the oven (covered in foil) to warm through for about 20 minutes. I served this with creamy mashed potato (made from scratch today) into which I had stirred about a tablespoon of frozen parsley- and the leftover carrots/cauli/ courgettes from yesterday heated in the microwave with a bit of butter. It was delish! Oh and for pudding we had cold custard leftover from Saturday which I had poured into two ramekin dishes and allowed to set in the fridge and which I topped off with about a tablespoon of low fat pouring cream leftover from yesterday. Good job we aren't on a diet though!

Tomorrow I am going to do a chicken marengo - basically chicken and tomato. I am going to slice just 1 largish chicken breast in two and make it do - the OH will never notice if there's lots of veg to cover it!

Keep up the good work everyone - you are doing really wel!

    Hi all.

Stopped at Asda on my way home from work and spent £29.40 which added to the few bits we bought on Saturday at Lidl brings the totel so far to £91.78. I do find that I look at everything that might have gone in the basket in the past in a new light and lots of them stay on the shelf!!!

I live in Hull and am very lucky as I live 5 mins walk from Asda and within 10 mins drive of Lidl, Aldi, Netto, Iceland , 2 Tescos and 3 more Asdas but have to drive a long way to get to my favorite farmers market.

My DD works in Asda so I find I can get some good 'woopsies' particularly bread as we pick her up and take her home when she finishes work at 10pm (the buses at that time of night can be dodgy).

By the way I have started keeping a notebook but my chair for when I am on this site so mthat I can note down the recipies - my 2DDs say they will be fighting over the 'heirloom' when the time comes:rotfl:

DH had another job interview today but have to wait for the result.
