    Hi Galactic Green

funny you should ask about pea and ham soup - I wanted to make some on Thursday and couldn't find a recipe, so I made one up!:o ( a la Mrs Mccawber!)

I chopped an onion and "sweated" it in a pan with about an ounce of butter for 5 minutes.

added 2 tins marrowfat peas (drained), a pint of chicken stock (not HM I'm afraid - OXO, sorry) and some pepper - no salt as I have to watch my salt intake due to blood pressure.

Simmered for approx 45 minutes until the peas were really soft (practically disentegrated!). Then I shoved it in the liquidiser until it was smooth. I put it back in the pan, added some bits of ham, chopped up small, and reheated it. Served it to DH for lunch with some HM bread and he loved it! I was well chuffed! (I managed to save a small portion for the freezer, which I will have for lunch one day in the week, but don't tell, 'Cos OH was looking for more and I said there wasn't any. Shhhhhh!)

I know it's not a "proper" recipe but it was yummy!

Thanks so much for the recipe. I will give it a go this week and let you know how it goes. We use very little salt as well, and I can really taste it in prepared food.
    Thanks again

I just want to say thanks to Twinks for the hobnob recipe. They came out sooooooo good!!!! My daughter doesn't like them though, but she is a fussy moo :rotfl: . She doesn't like porridge and probably had it in her head that's what she was eating. She did help make them along with my youngest son. Are they meant to be a bit soft or hard like a real hobnob? Either way they're delicious eat-drink-smiley-7854.gif

    Hi all,
I`ve just done an Asda online shop to be delivered on Friday and i`ve stocked up on a few things, the sack of dogfood will be bought this week too and i`m hoping to scrape in on budget.
There were a few things in the online order that could have waited but i don`t always shop at Asda so i took advantage of the free delivery code and went a bit mad :o
I`ll wait and see what the final total is when it`s been delivered.

I may even try and live out of the freezer soon for a week as it`s bursting then that will even out the weeks for my GC as it`s a bit in front with the dates due to pay days.

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p

Went to sainsburys yesterday, didn't need much but did come to 24.77 in the end, just for some fruit, cheese, yoghurts, plain flour, eggs, marg etc can you tell I'm stocking up with plenty of stuff for dd birthday cake! The practice one was yummy so hopefully the real thing will be just as good. Bought 2 half price loaves from the bakery a nice organic malted loaf for me and a small white one for the kids. Only got 25 pounds now till the end of the month which should be ok so long as oh can keep getting the occasional pint of milk from work, 12.5 is enough to get a weeks worth of fruit and bread and milk, if we really need anything will use nectar points but would rather not if we don't need to.

    Hi Everyone,

Well, I think im going to have to go and buy milk again:mad: . I will need to get f/f milk for LO's. Whenever I buy milk, I always buy the big 6pint carton. DS#2 (hes 2 years old) loves drinking milk, and I always feel mean if I say no you cant have any.

Looking back at what ive spent so far and looking at my receipts, I feel as though ive spent alot, but, havent got alot for my money:confused: . So far this month ive bought:-
    Nappies (asdas own)
    2 x packets cold meat
big block of Asda smart price mild cheese
    3 x 6 pints milk
    Lidls own dishwasher tablets
    box of weetabix
    2 packets of raisins
    2 x cucumber
    1 x red pepper
    6 tomatoes
    Asda smart price lard
    asda frozen veg
    bold laundry tablets
    potatoes
    frosties
    big bag walkers crisps
    tetley tea bags
    grapes
    strawberries
    yogurts
    cooking chocolate
    muller yogurt drinks
    muffin cases
    asda fruit loaf
    12 freerange medium eggs
    bag of onions.

I havent bought any "proper" food.

These things have been bought between Asda & Lidl (mostly asda).
What puts me off Lidl is because alot of the stuff they have is in a foreign language. I need to just get that out of my head, and just buy the stuff, and see what it tastes like. I suppose its trial and error, to see if their stuff is as good as the big supermarkets.

    Jackie

P.S Good idea Mike D, I come from just outside Glasgow, and Im very lucky to have quite a selection of supermarkets. I have 2 Sainsburys, 2 Asdas, Morrisons Aldi & Lidl. There really is no excuse for me not shopping around to get the best deals when i really think about it.
  • Still watering down the milk and still on track to go over budget AGAIN this month.:o

  • I've spent quite a bit this week but at least we're pretty well stocked now. I went to Aldi's in my lunch hour as there is one near work, and stocked up on anything that wasn't chilled/frozen as it had to sit in the car boot all afternoon. I also went to Asda's - we've got a big one about 10 mins drive from home, and I hadn't been to it for years. I lost the will to live before I was even half way round - couldn't find some things I wanted, others had sold out....I won't be going back there in a hurry.
