    hi everyone

i am constantly amazing myself this month!! week three started last friday and i seemd to spend more than i wanted but kept within my budget, i don't have much keft to do me to friday well thursday really but i can't think of anything other than kitchen roll that i really need to buy.

i have found it much easier to work on a weekly amount so i know i only have to get to each friday to get more grocery money.

I took all my money out on pay day, separated it into money bags and stored it in a jar - i have been so disciplined i don't recognise myself!!!

my food budget is still excessive i know - but getting to week four in a month and having money to spend without relying on writing a cheque is amazing for me - lets hope i can keep this up!!

thank you all for your support.

ps to The Bees - i found Core plan (i think it's called No Count now) quite good, i bought a recipe book at a meeting and cook chilli, steak and hm chips, and a variety of other things which meant no cooking one thing for me and something else for the rest of the family - currently right of WW wagon at the minute but i will get backthere soon. - good luck

Thanks Clare. I have a recipe book from WW which I will have another look at. I find meals not too difficult but am a bit of a snacker between meals and need to look at cheap things for in between meals otherwise I'll be tempted to raid the crisp cupboard!

    Thanks MRSMCAWBER
I love those hobnobs but mine were quite big so I was probably eating 4 points at a time!
My fairy cakes are made with 6oz of SR flour, 6oz marg, 6oz caster sugar and 3 medium eggs. Out of this I normally make about 16 cakes.
Thanks for offering to work it out for me.

  • Evening All

Had 2 NSD at the weekend and did well at costco today spending just under £20 (usually it can be anything from £70 upwards). Bought Chicken, part baked baguettes and danish parties  all for freezer. Will have to find a recipe for danish's as I have have a bit of a weakness.......

I'll be going to my usual Morrisons tomorrow, my only shop until next Tuesday, I usually go on Friday but not this week, have to take dad to hosp appt. I was hoping to get away with a cheap shop to stay within my budget but I'm thinking it not happen now. DH has just announced that he's not bothered about going out for his b'day at weekend and instead wants a lamb roast dinner. Going out doesn't come out of the grocery budget  .

I have got a stuffed freezer so will have to work from that for the rest of the month. Will reeeeaaalllly try to stay with in budget.

    good luck the bees -

i am rubbish at snacking too - when i was being good i made up sugar free jelly pots so that i could eat more at lunch time. However i have a tea break in the morning and one in the afternoon - this is where i really struggle - reaching either for bread or biccies - so if you get any suggestions let me know!!

would be interested to know the points value of the fairy cakes because that's the exact same recipe i use!!

  • My DD was at her night class today (50mile round trip:mad: ) and I passed the time in Morrissons, £9.95 spend. I was chuffed though as I had a few packs of school bars bogof, and a huge bag of pudding rice for SIL. My shop would have been cheaper without DS though who loves those wee cooked sausages and begged for a pack at £1.78:eek: I should have said no, but gave in. I have to learn to resist those big eyes!
A lovely thing happened to me today, I had bought a second hand (to die for) sofa and a friend organised her DH to deliver it for me, that was so nice of her. The person also gave me her old freezer for free, and the friends DH delivered that too! I must make them some cakes tommorrow, and of course several to fill the freezer. It's going to save me sooo much money as I can batch bake now without worrying about filling up my tiny freezer:j . I really am lucky to have such wonderfull friends.
Away off to update my sig.

    Hi,

Well I kinda lost track but think I currently stand at £200.86 to date. DD3 had her baby last Monday so I've been buying extra bits n bobs that I'm not including but it's all got a bit mixed up! I think I might go over budget but will try very hard to use food from cupboards and freezer til end of month (well 25th)

I've been being a granma this last week and done lots of baking and preparing meals as I've been off work to help with baby:D. I made fairy cakes, apple crumble, celery soup (from leftovers), salmon fishcakes (had a pack of frozen salmon that i bought when on special offer), and made a load of breadcrumbs that i've put in freezer for future use.

    This week's menu is;

Tonight - salmon fishcakes with new pots and brocolli, tinned pineapple for afters.
Tues - Roast pork(reduced from Tesco) with roasties, HMyorkshire puds and carrots, HM rock buns for afters.
Wed - kids not here (at dad's) so leftover HMmoussaka from last week for me!
THurs - Spagetti Carbonara (bacon omlette and potato wedges for DD3 as she doesn't like pasta!), jelly for afters.
Fri - Plaice (in HM breadcrumbs!)Again reduced from Tesco, with new pots and peas. Tinned Peaches with tinned cream for afters.
Sat - kids at dad's again, so I'll prob have a toastie or something.
Sun - MH cottage pie with carrots and peas, HM Apple crumble and custard for afters.

    morning all

Congratulations on the new arrival JayneC :T

TheBees.. the fairy cakes worked out like this :-

    6oz flour - 8.5
6oz marge -31 if hard marge 25 for polyunsaturated
    6oz sugar - 10
    3 eggs - 6

so 49.5 points or 55.5 points....
    so 3-3.5pts each...
Not as low as the WW ones...but i bet they are more satisfying and a whole lot cheaper and you know what is in there ;) ...

have you seen the "autumn slice" i think it was called? basically its a sponge made in a shallow tin with half plums on top... its a WW recipe... i will swipe it off my mum when we talk later.. she has made quite a lot -and everyone back home loves it.. and its quite low in points..i will post it as soon as i get it ;)

Had some of the whoopsed corn fed free range chicken last night....oh my word how nice was it :T .. have stripped the rest of and made stock -that im just about to turn into soup for hubbies flask....

apparently every time hubby gets his flask out at work everyone keeps asking to try what he has :rotfl: ... when he 1st took his flask they sort of pulled faces and couldn't understand why he bothered...
He is a mechanic in the army so quite often in the cold..and now they have no running water, no toilet -they have to use another sections  ... so he sits there with his flask of coffee, flask of soup or stew and HM bread.. and eats it through the day :T , and since he has been with that section...he is the only one not to come down with bugs, colds n things :D

I have done some more meal planning ..i now have 12 weeks of main meals worked out using what is in the freezer -and still have some more to do
    so this week we have:-
    • roast chicken, steamed potatoes, broccoli, carrots n peas
    • HM sausages, potatoes n onions in oven and veggies
    • chicken n peppers in HM tortillas with salad
    • pasta hearts with spicy tomato sauce and heart shaped garlic bread
    • liver casserole with steamed potatoes and veg
    • salad with steamed potatoes and home boiled gammon
    • prawn salad with steamed potatoes
right i had better get off and get that soup done, and then finish the meal plans
    have a great day everyone:D
