Hi everyone,
Well, I went to Asda yesterday and was £6 odds, however, I cant find my receipt. I know its in here somewhere, so, I will have a good look for it and update my sig later.
Mrs M I made pastry with the recipe you gave me. It was alot better than the one I tried last week, but, I still need to work at it. I think next time I make it I will try it in the food mixer. When your rolling out pastry, do you roll it out very thin?
I will defo have a good look in Lidl and Aldi next time I go shopping. My mum loves Lidl, and my Dad loves Aldi.
I was telling Dh that I was going to start and shop at Aldi & Lidl, but, was a little bit put off by the packaging in a foreign language, and he reminded me that I would have to be careful, as DH#2 is being tested for a peanut allergy, and although I know things like cheeses pasta sauces and meats shouldnt have traces of peanut in them, I still need to be very careful, expecially when the doctor said that he is 99% sure Ds has a peanut allergy, and although he took a mild reaction before, doesnt mean to say it will be a mild reaction next time, infact, he could actually stop breathing:eek:   .
MY SIL has a peanut allergy, and she has to be really really careful about what she eats, but, saying that, shes allergic to alot of other stuff too. Anyway, Im waffling now and getting off the subject.
The Aldi near me is a new one, it only opened last year, but, I havent been in that one, but, I will venture there.
Jackie
P.S Mrs M, you mentioned in another post about Ham, Potato & cheese slices, could I have the recipe for that please if you dont mind x0 -
Evening all, NSD here today but think I have spent more than enough to see the month out other than the usual bread/milk/fresh produce. To my utter delight, DS came home last night with a 10p wholemeal loaf! These are few and far between in our neck of the woods so it was like man returning from successful hunting trip! (I'm in southwest Scotland, we have a small Co-op here, a smallish Somerfields about 8 miles away and there are no grocery home deliveries for online shopping.) He didn't even want the 10p reimbursed!
The new timer works, so I can now happily leave the slow cooker on without fear of forgetting to switch it back off, and the freezer is still rather full. I'm really glad that people on here are noticing a difference with their budgets and finding they have money in the bank. That is BRILLIANT! Keep up all the good work!
PEA & HAM SOUP: I make the stock from water used to boil a ham joint (I prefer smoked ham) and then simmer with some grated carrots, chopped onion, split peas (green or yellow), salt and pepper. My fave, however, is ham & lentil, made as above but substitute the split peas for lentils. It's a bit quicker and the lentils don't need soaking overnight.
I live in a village approx 15 miles outside Grimsby, in town we have a 1 Sainsburys, 1 Asda, 2 Tescos, 1 Morrisons, 2 Somerfields, 2 Lidl, 1 Aldi, 1 Iceland, 1 Farmfoods, 2 Netto; these are spread over the whole town and the outskirts. There is also a Coop in the village halfway between us and Grimsby and the usual Spar etc in the surroundijng villages. There are also some Tesco metros and Sainsburys at stores, but I don't bother with those.
In the town in the opposite direction, there is a Coop, Somerfield.
Our actual village has no shops etc just a pub, Primary school and church. My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -

Had to add another 2 reciepts to my shopping total courtesy of hubby,AGAIN!
He gave me a receipt from a couple of days ago for stuff he bought to take to the office,he has a fridge and a little george foreman grill there.Buying the stuff to make his own breakfast and lunches was meant to be cheaper but he is spending about £25 a week on german meats, petit pans and morning rolls, salad stuff, bacon, cheese, biscuits, mars bars, and tons of crisps.I think he must be feeding his workmates too.
He also phoned on his way home from work to see what was for tea,it was home made canelloni. He came in via tesco again with tear and share garlic bread,a bag of ready washed salad leaves, other salad bits and the one item I asked for,a loaf of bread(he didnt buy the value one,he appears to have developed a phobia of some sort to blue and white stripes). So £5.91 for stuff to go with dinner!!!
What chance do I have with a man like that???:o"Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -

The kids were told when I got the monthly shopping that if they were little piggies and ate all the biscuits there would be no more until pay day on the 28th.
Well they were little piggies but daddy keeps bringing home more biscuits,"because there were none left",and not the cheap ones I buy either.
I am absolutely seething!!!Every day he hands me a receipt which has on it wholy unnecessary things, mars bars, chocolate biscuits, coca cola and crisps, crisps and more crisps. Then he complains that the kids have them all.
I have told him not to buy those things for the kids at all, that if he wants those things for himself to keep them at work or in his truck,or something!!!
Have any of you managed to get your OH to stop buying a load of C**P,how did you do it please?
Sorry for the rant but if he keeps doing this I will be over budget within 2 days and be in deep doodoo by the end of this month."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
spent another £40 at asda last week not that happy with myself as that is making me cut it fine to last the month out on my original lowered budget , was a big decision to cut it by £100 this month and i think by next week i could be regretting it, never really had o scrimp on food before always knowing that i could just buy more but this month i need to make it stretch as much as possible. I am determined not o go shopping again this week though i should have everything to cover me. Just finding it hard to stick to such a low amount though i know really that i have enough and can get by.Still TryingGrocery challenge July 2016

NSD yesterday and today (hopefully), although I will need to get pork chops for Thursday's meal at some point. I made banana loaf last night and it's lovely. Had a piece last night while warm and took 2 slices to work for breakfast. Can I count it towards my 5 a day ? :rotfl:
I'm lucky as OH doesn't pop into the shops and come back with anything so the budget is completely in my control.Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -

I chip mine with skins. Don't bother to par boil, rinse and drain.
I use fry light. Spray the tray, then add chips, spray the chips.
Season and put in oven for about 45/50 mins @ 180 fan assisted (I find fan assisted gives me better chips but you could put oven to about 200/210 and get around the same result).
I also do exactly the same for roast potatoes and they come out great too.Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -
I have read over some of the tips on the last few pages and have decided to make some stuff for hubby to take in to work rather than leaving it up to him to buy stuff.
I can make him soup, bacon quiche and I am going to have a good go at making HM paprika crisps. That should stop the spend fest.;)"Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0
