Thanks for the advice Mrs Monnetpenny.
Im trying to work out if i should buy a bread maker - the children and DH can demolish a loaf very quickly. Wd it help in cost cutting as they seem quite expensive i need to be sure it would be worth my while to buy it.
The mian advantage I have foundwith HM bread is it is more filling, so they don't actually eat as much:D
Also you know exactly what is going in there not all the additives and preservatives which are in a "normal" sliced loaf.
I have been making HM bread with a BM for over 10 years, I'm on my 3rd machine, I wear them out.
My boys would never touch shop bought wholemeal bread but love the one I make in the BM (half white half wholemeal).
I also make garlic bread, buns, french sticks, fruit loaves, doughnuts.
I have now found it better to use the dough facility then shape & bake buy hand, but that is just my opinion. My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).

i use my BM for making pizza base dough, DH only eats wholemeal bread so wouldn't even try a ready made pizza, but he said he'd try it if i found hm bases so i made one, the pizza went down so well its now a bit of a saturday standard tea.
I tried bagels but wasnt too successful i will have another go. I made a loaf last week and see what you mean about it being more filling. will definately maek more bread in it.
I got my bm from a car boot for £5 it was hardly used and came with the books so a real bargain:TSPC~12 ot 124

Hi all,
I have decided that my experiment last month of trying to do a mammoth shop at the beginning of the month and just buying fresh stuff as I go along just doesn't work for me.
I can't get my head around the meal planning for a month - its just easier for me to do it by the week.
Someone posted at one time that she shopped 1 day later each week, I'm trying that.
Like you can't cope with monthly shop, plus have to travel at least 11 miles for nearest Aldi/Somerfield-only got a local Spar(convenient BUT COSTLY)
Superb local butcher, with locally sourced meat.
Veggie shops OK but not cheap.
SC great. You can't stay young for ever, but you can be immature for the rest of your life.0 -

Hmmmmm i dont think i have time for this i work full time but am off today with THE BUG. I didnt realise you could make so many different types of bread with a BM - thought it was just one kind take it or leave it LOL :rotfl:
Is there any particular one i should buy - just looked on tescos site (so get points) and there are quite a few and a big diff in price.
Is it quick at making pizza bases?"With no money you start to discover your own inner resource" GK Chesterton2 adults, 3 children0 -
Not a moneysaving tip but can someone please tell me how to do this. When some of you quote another person it goes in a nice box with the name of the person being quoted. When i do it its a line of writing with the words quote by it. Its easier to read in the box - how do i do it? thanx"With no money you start to discover your own inner resource" GK Chesterton2 adults, 3 children0

Is it quick at making pizza bases?
the cycle on mine takes 50 mins (its a hinari one)
to do a quote click the word 'quote' at the bottom of the persons thread you want to comment on it then brings a new box up with what they've said in quote marks, you then juast delete the bit you dont want and leave the bit you want to quote.
add what you want to say After the quote marks and your comment will be seperate below but in the same post. hope that makes sense
make sure you dont accidentaly delete the quote marks either end of the person you are quoting, it looks like the one in your last post didnt work because the name and opening quote marks are missing from the beginningSPC~12 ot 124

I just got a cheap one this last time as am only using the dough facility. "Cooksworks". Alot depends on how big a loaf you want, if the BM says it will make a 1lb loaf then that is really the amount of dough it will make.
I also have a big loaf tin the same size as the supermarket split tin, got this from a local independant cookware shop.
Most do come with a timer so you could set it in the morning then when you got home the dough would be ready and then it would just be knockback/shape/reprove/bake (30 - 45 mins max depending on heat of room etc)
I also make pizza dough (forgot that one), boys like having the base and stuff set out and then making their own inventions for toppings. My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)

Should add that mine takes 1½ hours for the full dough facility.
I have had Morphy Richards in the past as well and they took just as long.My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
