  • mhe - to reply to your question a couple of pages ago....we are in the very southern edge of Cheshire, so a fair way from Warrington, probably about 35 - 40 miles at a guess, so no homebargains for us!

Well, I have had a cr*p week with my budget. Like a lot of other people I do best when I stay out of the shops, the more NSD's the better I say! Sadly, for some reason I haven't been able to organise myself or my shopping lists at all this week and I haven't had a single NSD.   .

Although I am, technically, on track to come in on or below budget, I know my own spending pattern and I have a sneaky feelnig it's going to get a bit tight in the last week of the month (gulp!) Oh well, I've got plenty of pasta in and a couple of jars of pesto in the cupboard so we could always live on that for the last few days of the month!

Just off to update siggie :o:o

Hello all - went shopping today and got topped up some things + some cleaning stuff (found Stardrops) including Mr Muscle drain sink cleaner. I know it's toxic etc but I find it's the only thing that works to really degunk the sink when it gets bad. Must remember to do the bicarb and vinegar thing regularly as it works for keeping it ok. So today's spend was £32.30 and have added to my total. We have a menu plan now so it will really just be odds and ends needed until the end of the month. Oh today's spend included 2 cheapo bottles of wine and I wasn't going to count alcohol on the challenge but oh well, I'm sure it will give me some leeway money should I need it later!

    hi everyone.

I have managed to have 2 NSDs today and yesterday - today's not by design. I was going to pop into Asda on the way home from work and say hi to my DD who works there. At 3pm I got a phone call from Asda that DD had collapsed and could I pick her up:eek:
I dropped everything at work - my desk will take some sorting out tomorrow!!
Anyway she seems to be ok we managed to get her to the doctors at 5pm and she has an ear infection which seems to have caused a faint. I could have spent quite a bit at the shopping centre where the doctors is but I forgot my purse so I saved myself from excess.

I work at a leisure centre so this is one of the busiest weeks of the year - people are not on hols so much so lots of them take their kids swimming etc. I am really looking forward to Friday evening:rotfl:

Well I have to go cos my OH took some of Twinks Hobnobs to work today and now I have one order from them for more samples + my other DD who is at uni has asked for a batch to take home tomorrow.

    Onwards and upwords:j

"Moniker--recipe for the morengo please; never heard of it before, but sounds yum"

Rumour has it that Napoleon commanded his chef to cook something quick and tasty before the Battle of Marengo and he made this dish with the ingredients he had to hand - so it is simple and quick!

    For 4 people :
    1 tbsp olive oil
8 small chicken pieces (I used a single large chicken breast cut in half horizontally for DH and me)
    300g tomato puree
200ml white wine or chicken stock
    2 tsp dried mixed herbs

Heat the oil in a pan and add the chicken pieces. Cook until browned all over, turning occasionally. Add the tomato puree, wine or stock, and herbs. Bring to the boil and simmer for 30 minutes or until the chicken is tender and the juices run clear. Serve with creamy mash potato or ribbon noodles and a green salad.

I used stock (hm of course) instead of wine, and put this in the slow cooker on low all day - about 10 hours and it was delish!

I did manage a NSD again (4th in a row) as I didn't have time to shop for bananas before work as I was running late. Big shop tomorrow though!
