To those who have a cleaner...

I wouldn't dream of expecting my cleaner to have to clean my toilet. I think it's a horrible job. If she wants to, she can, but it doesn't need doing. The bins are all emptied and the kitchen is also spotless.
She's in the house for 4 hours and she's excellent. To come home after she's been is worth all the panic beforehand.
If the kitchen is spotless and the toilet are done before she comes, what does she do during those four hours?0 -
Our cleaner only comes once a fortnight, so we obviously have to keep on top of the cleaning generally in-between the cleaners visits.
We were away on holiday last week, and the cleaner came in on the Monday. It was SO nice coming home to a sparkling clean house!Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
I have to say that some of the most disgusting loos I've come across, belong to women that live alone  I've been doing it a long time and for me the 'what the hell am I doing this for?' moments absolutely always come from the spiders that run out from nowhere and scare the s**t out of me!!
In 1 of the places I do - lady on her own - the wooden toilet seat STANK of pee so strongly it made me feel sick.
I bought a new plastic seat in L1dl for £9.99, donned my gloves, removed the old 1 and fitted the new 1.
Left a note: 'So sorry, but the toilet seat broke - I have replaced it'

It was worth every penny not to heave every week, but she did leave me an extra tenner the next week:)Nicotine Free since 01.08.2010 :j:j:j

Oh yes, I do love coming back from holiday to a spotless house. It actually makes it feel relaxing, the way you can step into a hotel room and just start unpacking, as opposed to starting to clean the place because you've been away.
To me, it actually feels like the start of another holiday (although I do know that it's back to real life

Sorry to hijack but I have to ask.
I have just started a full time job and to be honest I am falling behind on my house work, you know the washing down wood work and scrubbing the bathroom/kitchen, I have been thinking about hiring a cleaner.
How often do you have a cleaner? What type of cleaning do they do? Do you use a company? How much do you pay?
I mean I or DH hoover daily because we have dogs and are house proud, and we are tidy (I tidy up every night) BUT like I said it's the big clean we lack.0 -

lol I have a fairly big house. She does all my floors including washing them, pulls furniture out, dusts, cleans the bathrooms, the sofas, sometimes my windows, mirrored wardrobes, skirting boards, coving etc. There's a fair bit to do if you're doing it properly."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I spent most of my friday morning childhoods arguing with my mum about what I saw was the pointless exercise of '
Cleaning for the cleaner'
I realise I am now officially grown up as I do the same!!
I don't clean, I just tidy, empty bins etc.
Darly - mine comes for 2 hours a week and cleans the kitchen, sitting room, hall, utility room, downstairs loo (latter 3 rooms are
Tiny) and upstairs does 2 bathrooms and our bedroom. She dusts hoovers and wipes. I love her!!0 -
I am amazed at some of these replies, because I think that if you are paying for a cleaner, then why are you cleaning up yourself?
As for the cleaners who have replied, if you don't like cleaning loos then you should be in another profession.
I know that some loos are pretty disgusting, but then some people are pretty disgusting and do not care about cleaning up after them. Some of my friends are amazed at my loo cleaning regime - getting the marigolds on (heavy duty black rubber gloves actually), and using a heavyweight sponge/scourer on every part of the bowl. If this process is done every week (along with the obvious minor cleaning every time you use the loo), then the loo stays clean and fresh.
I cannot understand anyone who fails to clean the loo after using it.0 -
I'm a cleaner.. and think that it is pointless for the people I clean for to tidy up before I come. The lady I cleaned for yesterday actually left me a note to apologise for the mess! A) it wasn't that messy, and
she pays me to tidy up!
I feel a bit useless when I come into a spotless home - what on earth are they paying me for? I also like to think that it's a nice treat when they come home to a sparkling, shiny house.. so at least let me provide that for them.
(Ooh, as an aside, for any cleaners on here.. is there anything you can recommend to get rid of shower door watermarks? A couple of houses I do, i don't think they cleaned their shower doors for months before, I've tried just about everything but can't seem to get rid of all the water spots)0 -

Harpic is your friend here (the blue one, not green or yellow!) Be very careful of any silver/gold fittings because they can turn black. If Harpic and a scrubbie won't shift it, nothing will. Sometimes if they've been left that long, I'm afraid they're there forever. Some people see the glass half full, others see the glass half empty - the enlightened are simply grateful to have a glass
