To those who have a cleaner...

Yes, I know this is MSE but I know I'm not the only one here who has a cleaner!
Just wondering, what do you do to prepare for the cleaner coming? I tidy up every room, empty all the bins, and clean the toilets. My OH thinks I'm mental ("isn't that what we pay her for?!") but I can't bear the thought of her having to clean our toilets. I know she still cleans them...but it feels much better to know they're perfectly clean from me cleaning them 1 hour before she gets near them!
What do you think? Am I crazy? My mum is exactly the same (she always feels stressed the night before the cleaner is coming because she feels she has to tidy up for her!) and my dad thinks she is mental...

Hmm I do think it's a bit bonkers to pay someone to do your cleaning and then do the yukky jobs before the cleaner comes!
We have a cleaner and the most I will do before she comes is fill the steam mop with water ready for her, and leave the cleaning products out in the kitchen so she doesn't have to scrabble about for them in our (over stuffed) hall cupboard!
Whilst many may consider a cleaner a luxury, for me it's the best money I spend every month, and I'd happily go without something else is order pay for it!Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
I do the exact same. Just because they have no shame doesn't mean we don't! Also, my husband had never met the cleaner and so doesn't give a rats bottom what she thinks. I can't let someone into my home when I'm not there to see how we REALLY live!Debt free as of July 2010 :j

I would tidy so they can get on with the actual hoovering/dusting/'cleaning', but I would certainly leave the toilet.0

I was just about to write very similar. I tidy up and make sure surfaces are clear of clutter. But I don't clean or do any cleaning jobs.I'm never offended by debate & opinions. As a wise man called Voltaire once said, "I disagree with what you say, but will defend until death your right to say it."

Sounds like your cleaner is like your personal trainer - paid to motivate you!0

I tidy up so she can get to the floor to clean it
Since I have small boys, I will ensure the loos have been flushed before she arrives.
I certainly don't clean before she arrives, but there is some level of preparation involved, so she can be free to do her job [STRIKE]without injuring herself on Lego or passing out with the smells the boys have left for everyone in the bathrooms [/STRIKE]0 -
When I had a cleaner I did a good tidy round the evening before. I certainly didn't clean anything as that was why I was paying a cleaner. My cleaner came once a week and I did general cleaning in between her visits. I must say I always loved coming home from work on the days she had been in - everything was lovely and clean, cushions beautifully plumped up and a fresh, clean smell about the house.
I am now retired and so busy enjoying my freedom from work I could do with employing another cleaner!0 -
I don't have a cleaner any more, but when I did I would not clean up before her. Obviously you would not leave dirty undies on the floor or used condoms by the bed (like my cleaner said one of her ex-customers did) but cleaning the loo, no definetly not.0

No, it isn't worth cleaning before the cleaner comes, but I guess I'd use my judgement if certain areas were really yuck, eg the loo or the cooker.
I think as long as you're not taking the proverbial, ie leaving a really awful unmanageable mess, then the cleaner would not object to cleaning your place. It's what they're paid for, after all.0 -
I clear clutter away and put clothes away that may be on the airer so she can hoover about etc.
I wouldn't leave the toilet if it was in a horrible state btw, but generally our loo is pretty respectableMetranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0
