I don't have a cleaner, but I'd probably make sure that the floor was clear of toys and the sink area wasn't covered in pots. But no, I wouldn't actually do any cleaning because that's what you're paying for...

OP - I do exactly the same as you.

I wouldn't dream of expecting my cleaner to have to clean my toilet. I think it's a horrible job. If she wants to, she can, but it doesn't need doing. The bins are all emptied and the kitchen is also spotless.

I also make sure my house is 100% tidy. Again, I don't expect her to have to clean around my mess. I think if I left loads of stuff about, she wouldn't clean that area as she wouldn't want to touch all my stuff.

It is panic stations every morning that she's due. All the kids have to pick every single little toy part up as she'll more than likely vacuum them up!

She's in the house for 4 hours and she's excellent. To come home after she's been is worth all the panic beforehand.

If the cleaner is coming every day then the lavs don't get that yukky, so it's surely a two minute job to clean them before the cleaner arrives?

I tidy up, that's it. And make sure the loos are flushed! Sometimes the tidying is very cursory but she is very good at cleaning even if it's not that tidy.

From the other side.....I did a house this morning, where the toilet in the daughter's (16) en-suite was disgusting with caked on poo both on the top of the loo (the bit under the seat) and in the bowl. NOT nice! :(

Yes, I can see what some of you are saying - I'm there to clean, but as others have mentioned, at least a quick check would be good! ;)

Pubic hairs in the shower etc are my 'What the hell am I doing this for?' moment :o:mad:

I clear the floor, tables and worksurfaces so that she can have access to clean properly.

If there is a giant mess, like one of the cats exploding, I will clear that. But I have had her come clean the house when I'm not there (out for the day or on holiday), and she will clean anything she comes across.

Otherwise, I don't actually clean before her visits, as she's there mainly to do what used to be termed the "rough work", and to cover for basic cat maintenance for when I'm not there. There is another person who visits to fuss the cats and sit with them in my absence.

A couple of weeks ago 1 of the dogs was terribly sick all over the hall carpet. Of course I cleaned it all up and then washed the carpet....no way would I have left it!

I work for a cleaning company and it's part of the contract terms that areas should be clear of clutter for cleaning, as time spent moving things around so we can clean properly means less actual cleaning time. As for cleaning the toilets......no one really wants to see other peoples 'mess' in a loo, but there's really no need to go to town on cleaning the whole thing!
Some houses we go to are already so clean, it's actually quite frustrating having to 'clean' them!!

I have to say that some of the most disgusting loos I've come across, belong to women that live alone  I've been doing it a long time and for me the 'what the hell am I doing this for?' moments absolutely always come from the spiders that run out from nowhere and scare the s**t out of me!!
