  • sorry, I dont see what your point is as I cant find the bit in my post that disagrees with anything you just said!!!

but....In your original post you were having a go at people who didnt like giving thier children fizzy drinks, saying we should all calm down, relax, stop making a big fuss and get out more....
That doesnt really come across as you giving people the right to differing opinions, according to you if we disagree we are obviously all nuerotics who cant enjoy our children!

as i said, people will do whatever they want as far as thier own kids are concerned, but that doesnt always make it the thing to do.

I had fizzy drinks when I was a kid, now being a student i drink them too often really but ive never had to have a filling or tooth removed.

Not allowing fizzy drinks seems to be the "in thing" with parents, theres nothing wrong with a bit of decent cola!

Did you know you can use it to clean the toilet?

Yes, it may be advocated to clean the lavvie, but even the toilet bowl will become tarnished with it if you use it often enough!

When addressing things like this and other perceived nasties is there is a difference between allowing your children the occasional glass of pop (which we do), and bringing them up on it. As for babies, well, enough said - especially when they have it in a bottle - argh!

my little boy has freshsly juiced carrot and apple every day and some for when he is out and about, I hear so many people say "Oh I wish I had the time". It is a 5 minute process whilst you are sorting brekkie.

You can also get a Suma branded Apple and Blackcurrant, which is 50% concentrate of each, a bit expensive but n nasties in it.

Please remember No Added Sugar means that there is still sugar present in the product and diet varieties with sweetners are just as or even worse

I personally wouldnt ever dream of giving my future kids anything that contained sweeteners such as **Aspartame**... but that is obviously totally my personal choice... I dont trust the FDA...

...it's in most No Added Sugar drinks... Lemsip... chewing gum... lots & lots of sweets.. etc etc... but can be easily avoided if you dont rely on processed foods & drinks for the bulk of your diet.

my sons 15 months and we wouldn't dream of giving him fizzy pop. Why would we want to give him a cup of tooth rot mixed with loads of e numbers?
  • i used to work in mcdonalds and saw babies younger than in the OP being given a happy meal of cheeseburger, chips and coke. mcdonalds sell organic semi-skimmed milk, freshly squeezed orange (tropicana) or bottled water - there's no need for a happy meal to contain coke or fruit shoot.

it's all very well telling the OP to stop being melodramatic - this is a forum. in real life you might well be shocked when you first hear of your baby being given coke. last week i upset my friend because i didn't hide my shock at her daughter being given a coke. she's not 2 and a half yet - far too young for coke in my opinion and i couldn't stop my jaw from dropping. we are still mates and we realise that sometimes our opinions differ where our children are concerned. the child's parents should have the final say over what goes into their child's body.

It is easy to get carried away with the responsibility we have for our childrens health but, all in all a varied diet is IMHO better by far for their physical, mental and emotional development. Banning foods and making them big no-no's is just storing up trouble for the future.

I know a few families who were ultra strict with their childs diet and now those children (without exception) are rebelling against that control.

I've seen kids stealing sweets and hiding them because they want them and are scared of the parents reactions. Some kids are totally overindulging in whatever they can get their hands on when their out of the house.

I agree its important to make sure your kids have a healthy diet, but I wouldnt make it forbidden fruit.

I have let my kids have a little pop occasionally, but I have educated them into understanding why it can be bad for them so now that they are old enough to choose they (mostly) opt for the healthier choice themselves.
