my son (5) asks for water as apose to juice lol
im like `are you sure you dont want juice?`
    `no thanks i like water`

Sounds like my niece - she'd rather have water than juice or fizz, and broccoli and cauliflower instead of chocolate and crisps and biscuits. The saddest thing is that, even though she's always been this way, she has the most appalling yellow rotten teeth I've ever seen on a child. Doesn't seem fair somehow.
I am not stubborn. I am merely correct.

I never ever buy fizzy pop as i don't want my boys to have it. They both have beautiful teeth and i want to keep them that way. Very, very occassionally they are allowed a small glass at a party if that is what is offered. I can understand your upset at your sister giving it. I have a daily battle with my mum not to give my boys sweets, icecream, chocolate etc. I wouldn't ban them but think they should be restricted to treats.

I've never seen the big deal about kids having fizzy pop personally. My kids were allowed it from as soon as they were old enough to drink out of a normal cup, before that it was just water milk or juice.

Neither had any problems with their teeth rotting, dd is 14 and never had a filling in her life, ds is 6 and his are fine too. It's like everything else given sensibly and in moderation then there's no problem.

I had fizzy drinks when I was a kid, now being a student i drink them too often really but ive never had to have a filling or tooth removed.

Not allowing fizzy drinks seems to be the "in thing" with parents, theres nothing wrong with a bit of decent cola!

i dont buy fizzy so we dont have it in the house however my mum and dad have it sometimes and i dont mind if they have it their, or if we're at a party and if we go out for a meal let them have a few sips of mine.
I think if sometimes you dont let them have it as children when they do become old enough to have it/buy it themselves they tend to go ott with it as its a 'forbidden' thing
Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts
  • I agree with lyndsay. I rarely buy fizzy pop, mainly because I don't like it. I don't stop the kids having it, but mine also prefer water or squash.

isnt 'squash' just as bad as 'fizzy' ? chemicals and sweeteners and all that ?

The sugar content of fizzy drinks is worrying, but what also worries me is that some have caffeine which is a diuretic as well as a stimulant, and also a lot of colas tend to have phosphoric acid in which leaches calcium from the body so no way mine are having anything with that in!

I agree about them trying things to know what they're like, we did this with DD1 who's three and she hates the fizz in drinks! Woohoo! May it stay like that forever (as of course, it will.... in my head anyway :rotfl: )

And aren't the diet varieties even worse for sweetners than the full fat stuff?

Not that I am advocating any fizzy drink but think there is a thread somewhere about diet drinks not been as good as what you might think?

My LO of one drinks water and loves it. I feel no need to introduce anything else, juice or otherwise at this early stage. Different when they can talk:eek:

But then it would be limited to parties etc..We don't drink the stuff any way so why would I encourage LO to do so?!

Re: Rachie B's thread: I have also seen so many LO's of 2/3 drinking coke from a bottle(that's when they are not eating the chips 'n' nuggets 'n' stuff:D )
    It's great in here! :)

I am lucky in that my two eldest have only just started drinking fizzy drinks in the last few months or so (eldest is 13 and middle one is 10). Youngest still hates fizzy at 8. They all hated the fizz in their mouths (I was the same until about 12 too).

I do sometimes buy the odd bottle of coke or fanta now for at home, but I make it a treat. However, if they are out I would not refuse to let them have a fizzy drink if that's what they wanted.
