my dd1 is 2yr 10 months and my sister admitted they gave her fizzy pop when they took her out.I nearly had heart failure, this is something I would never give her. My sister did not see a problem but promises she will not give dd it again. Does anyone give their children fizzy pop, I was wondering:eek:

i think it ok as a treat every so often,i wouldnt give any of my children age 5 and 2 in april it on a daily /weekliy basis but once a while isnt going to do them any damage
hope you didnt fall out with your sister over it though,as you sound really shocked that she did.appreciate what you have got x0 -
Dont worry too much - we dont stop our daughter from trying things if she wants them, eg, is one of us order a pepsi/cocacola when out and she is asking for some then we let her try some - with most of those things she doesnt like due to being unfamiliar, like the fizzyness in her mouth, then she no longer wants it. Remember those type of things are only troublesome if they are had regularly.
We dont have fizzy drinks, sweets or junk food in the house so we dont worry about her harming her teeth or getting hyper over these things because they are so rarely available to her and thats the way we hope to keep it.
I think if you stop a little one from trying something they want it all the more - its like a taboo, bad for you so it makes it nice. Just like adults and alcohol/ciggerettes - it takes quite a few tries before someone can be hooked or even enjoy them.Mummy of 3 lovely munchkins :smileyhea0 -
My son is now 11 and I have only just allowed him to drink fizzy drinks. When he was younger, if he had had fizzy drinks at a party, he was hyper and not very nice. He was allowed lemonade every now and again as that didn't affect him as much as other drinks. He also have a lovely set of teeth and a great smile. Fizzy drinks rot their teeth.Life is like a box of chocolates, ya never know what yer gonna get

DS is about the same age as your DD and he has fizzy once every few months. Was a nightmare at CMas as everyone kept offering it to him, but no probs every now and then.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

I've seen little babies having coke in a bottle before now
there was a little boy at playgroup i used to run, who,at the age of 3 had all the front teeth blackened from having fizzy drinks in his bottle the whole day long !
so sad
i say everything in moderation is the key
theres no "need" for young children to have anything other than milk or water ,but when they get to school age and start getting invites to parties etc then a little fizzy drink isnt going to harm
when we eat out my 2 will have a black currant and lemonade, but we dont really have fizzy at home
if you dont buy it they cant eat / drink it
ETA : doh i meant milk and WATER ! not squash !0 -
I've never seen the big deal about kids having fizzy pop personally. My kids were allowed it from as soon as they were old enough to drink out of a normal cup, before that it was just water milk or juice.
Neither had any problems with their teeth rotting, dd is 14 and never had a filling in her life, ds is 6 and his are fine too. It's like everything else given sensibly and in moderation then there's no problem.0 -
I went to the cinema one afternoon during half term. There were a couple of boys in there, about 8 or 9 years old I guess, drinking Red Bull!!!!
I'm 29 and can't handle Red Bull!!!!!:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:A
