Do you have an ottoman bed? Do you like it?

Thanks for the quick response.
I'm looking for a Duvan style ottoman.
We initially had our eye on the York Ottoman from Bensons (£699), but they were unable to tell me the weight limit and I didn't want to risk it.
I've since seen a couple on Time4Sleep (Serenity - £479, now £349 and the Claridge - £629, now £499) which I could ask for info on in the morning. (sorry, as a new user it won't let me post links)
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check out the Old English Bed company too.
After finding the mattress we liked in John Lewis, the sales person said he would be surprised if their Tempur ottoman would hold its weight when lifted, but something I can look further into.
Thanks for your help, got something else to check out there.0 -
I am interested in Ottomans - moreso since nobody on this thread's had a bad word to say against them.... but then I got to thinking - the base doesn't come in two halves.
How did people get it from the front door into the bedroom? I am 5' high, a little old, weak .... and the staircase isn't the biggest.
With a regular double bed I could always remove the drawers and get each half of the base up the stairs alone (allbeit slowly and moaning to myself) .... and eventually get round to lugging the mattress up).... not so sure about a whole Ottoman.
Has anybody had a problem getting them upstairs?0 -

I have a kingsize divan ottoman and it came in 2 halves. The frame ottomans need to be assembled in the room and as in pieces will be easier to handle. If you can get a single divan up the stairs, either will be fine. I did pay for delivery though and had the bedroom clear so it was delivered straight up the stairs by the driver and his mate.
P.s. I love mine for the extra storage it provides and wouldn't go back to a normal bed.0 -
Ours was self assembly. Needed two of us. Managed it without any major rows lol.

I've never been a huge fan of Ottoman beds to be honest but they are useful in rooms where you need to incorporate additional storage, especially in smaller rooms. It makes it look a lot more tidy.
I decided on a more traditional wooden bed frame from a company called Get Laid Beds (fantastic name, right?) about a year ago and they made some fantastic sturdy storage boxes for underneath the bed frame but I think they may have discontinued their storage range now. Think the website is http://www.getlaidbeds.co.ukDoes the walker choose the path or the path the walker?

Fantastic post, you link to a website that you think no longer sells the product in question! Do you work for them?
From what I can see, all the mattresses are an own label version of Restus's mattresses, with a typical own label mark up.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
I know people who have an ottomon bed and on the surface looks like a good idea because of the storage. However, check them out properly as some of them to open are quite difficult and some are not the sort you want to be opening on a regular basis because of it.0

I really want an Ottoman bed but as the slats sit lower than the sides, is it difficult to get your fitted sheets on them? This wouldn't be a problem with a Divan Ottoman but the bit that lifts up is a solid platform, which wouldn't be as comfortable or allow the mattress to breathe :-(0

I've had an Ottoman for about 6 weeks now and I love it! I used to have the Divans with drawers and then over stuff them with junk so the went really flimsy and broke. I feel like the Ottoman has more storage space and is easy to get stuff in and out (my bedside tables us to block the drawers.) it was a more expensive one though.I'm never offended by debate & opinions. As a wise man called Voltaire once said, "I disagree with what you say, but will defend until death your right to say it."
Mortgage is my only debt - Original mortgage - January 2008 = £88,400, March 2014 = £47,000 Chipping away slowly! Now saving to move.0 -
I have a 6ft wide ottoman bed and I adore it. The slats under the mattress don't sit more than half an inch below the top of the sides so it's not hard to change the sheets at all. (The duvet cover is another matter!!!)Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0
