Depends on the style I think. If it's a divan ottoman, then I think so.
A frame bed ottoman would be wider at the frame.Herman - MP for all!0 -
I've never bought a bed without drawers in the base (or a cupboard with sliding door), and looking at the beds linked to I'd say I'd find them inconvenient, because the space inside would be more difficult to access, IYSWIM.
Most recently, bought DS1 a very nice single divan with drawers from John Lewis. Seems great.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Bed put together yesterday and daughter had her first night's sleep in it and gives it 5*.
The bed she chose is the basic faux leather headboard type as seen in recent groupon type offers although we chose to spend a bit more and go to local shop.
This one does have a frame that the mattress fits into so yes a bit wider if space is an issue, I could measure if anyone wants. Quite low as well seemed higher in the shop but its not a problem as it makes the small room look bigger.
The lifting mechanism is great and v drawers underneath much better as you don't need the space round the bed to be able to access the whole space. Plus the drawers that had been underneath the old bed had all fallen to bits.
All in all, very pleased and if I was thinking about replacing my own bed I'd definitely go for an ottoman style.0 -
I bought a kingsize faux leather ottoman from Tesco last year. The storage aspect is great... I had a double bed with drawers previously but this often made it tricky to access the things at the back of the drawers as my room isn't that wide - so this is a much better use of space and for that reason I would highly recommend one.
My bed opens from the base end and is fairly easy to open though it does require a fair bit of strength, as you have to essentially lift the whole mattress before the hydraulics kick in and take the weight.
My only complaint it that it can occasionally be a bit squeaky up at the hinge end when you move about on the mattress.0 -
Great for hiding the kids xmas presents....It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
I bought this for DS in January:

We're really pleased with the quality of the bed for the money (£139.99). It came with a material base but we didn't bother with it and just put things on the floor. Keep meaning buy some plastic storage boxes to make it easier to take things out when hoovering underneath.
The mattress sits in a recess with a couple of inches of bed showing either side of the mattress so in total is about as wide as a normal double bed. We use a normal double quilt/cover and got small double sheets from Dunelm Mill.
I took DS to a local independent bed shop to choose the mattress and invested in a good quality one. DS loves it.0 -
Sorry to butt in on this thread, but could Mudgekin tell me the name of the bed-making firm in Glasgow?
We will soon be changing the bedrooms about as children grow older and will need to upgrade from bunkbeds.
Thanks,

We got an ottoman bed - absolutely great! Huge amount of storage space and it is so much easier to access than the drawers we had previously. The bed lifts up hydraulically so no effort at all.
Ours was on special offer from Benson's - the downside is it was a self build. We will forever remember Andy Murray's wonderful victory as the night we built our new bed!
We don't have a very big house so I think I'll gradually replace all the beds to this type.
yes - thoroughly recommend.0 -
I have an ottoman bed from The Storage Bed Company it's has so much storage (35cm) but somehow I've managed to fill it ;-) Unlike many I looked at in the shops, it's very easy to open too.0
