Your little boy was attempting to avoid your wrath.
    I'm not that way reclined

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!

I'll always remember that series by Robert Winston (?) about child development where a child lying shows great empathy and intelligence as they understand the feelings/thoughts of others. My dd has some social development delay , although bright, and I was delighted when she told her first fib at 6 years! And lets be honest, everyone lies now aand then, even if just saving someone elses feelings.

Yes I remember that program, not all the details but the gist of it - lying as a child equips them with certain skills in adult life, and is in some ways a necessity..albeit an annoying one for us mums!

Just wait until he's 19, at Uni, you text him "good luck with your exam today" and he texts back that it was yesterday, and he'd only vaguely listened to when his exams were, and he missed it ... all of which is ENTIRELY plausible.

Fortunately before I could text back with an  and a "what have you done about it?" he'd sent another message to say he was joking, but he is in deep mire ...

Oh I think its quite normal, Id class his little outburst as a fib rather than a lie! Bless him!

When I have my niece (8), she sometimes tells fibs, I tell her, "You know when you fib, your eyes glow and adults can see it", which really is a fib in itself but i can always see her considering whether to tell a fib before she does. x
