How many solider clients do you have Andy? I have over 100.

None, but how much time have you spent deployed in operational theatres? I've done about 3 years cummulatively

It is a bit of a redundant argument, a bit like the pilots at BA, the GPs are in a position of power within the NHS and have the salaries and intellect to employ the best pensions consultants and PR people so the odds of there being any winners but the doctors is slim to say the least.
    I think....

So, I repeat my simple question, if the government acquiesce to the demands of doctors who else should pick up the additional tab?

In the interest of equality, the government needs to increase the contributions of other public sector workers, bringing their contributions in line with what doctors already pay.

And you disagree that most people leave the army before 40?
Paid very little (bear in mind, I'm way better placed to answer this that you)
Spend large chunks of time away from family (you seem to agree with my on this one now...3 years?)
Take orders from cowards (personal opinion, but I don't remember Tony Blair & co having a career in the military)
Pensions aren't that good (again, you have no experience of what other civil service pensions are like - I do - you sound like you aren't even drawing your pension yet )
Being in mortal danger (400+ servicemen killed in Afghanistan, 100+ in Iraq - number of GPs killed by enemy combatants 0)

If you are in the army, and I call BS, then you are so !!!!ing far removed from reality you must be a Colonel. How can you be so stupid?

I see in the interests of well informed debate you haven't yet chosen to share information about your career history and salary.

If the average doctors salary were equalised with the average civil servant there may well be a powerful argument to equalise everything else.

That's a clear answer, which is fair enough.

If other parts of the PS pay more to compensate I have no qualms with this. It is in essence taxpayer neutral in monetary terms.

What tends to happen however is one group gets a deal which suits them, but is then held up as a reference point by other groups. The bar is then raised.

which as a public sector employee whose career path required 7 years of full-time education before I was qualified to take up a salaried post, I'd agree with, for those on comparable pay......

Doctor's salaries are uniform across the board, any idiot can find out what I earn. 10 seconds on google reveals:

you clearly have an ambition and attitude to be a politician

as it's any way in the public domain and not personally confidential then but it would be so much easier for everyone if you chose to give the details of your career
