they were told she is approx 5 and that's all the history they really had on her,

by whom were they told she was 5?

how did she end up in this rescue?

it all does not add up COn - rescues have vets, vet would have known she was that much older

    somethig is not right here

    Have PMd you GR.

I don't know much about her history tbh and how she ended up there, she had been in foster before coming here.

Bless you, that must have been a shock for you! :(

I can totally understand why you would feel like that.

I have really enjoyed reading about you getting her and how well she has settled.:D

If I was you I would ask the vet again and maybe get a 2nd opinion after all there is a big difference between 5 and 10.

Just so you have a better idea in case there could be a mistake on the chip thing. Then like you say think more about joint supplements etc. But then put it to the back of your mind and just enjoy her, some things are fate and she was clearly meant to be your dog!! xx

I will check with vet just incase.

I do think perhaps blessing in disguise though, she has settled in so well here and I wouldn't change her for the world.

Hopefully she will be one of the dogs who live a long life, no health problems at 10 years old is good so that's a start. My old dog was 13 before she developed any problems and had to be PTS. I thought I had at least 5 years with Kia but now looking less likely which I think it upsetting me most. I'm comforted by the fact she will have had love and a home when the time comes though where as if she wasn't here she would still be in foster.

For some reason I can't get this out my mind, seems to be all I am thinking about. Haven't told partner, don't know why, I don't want to tell him :(

Don't worry too much, there is a 14 year old GSD at Tysons agility class who goes round faster than most of the young 'uns and he shows no signs of slowing down!

I imagine giving her a loving home where she is happy has prolonged her life no end anyway.

Tell your partner, otherwise you are struggling with it all on your own

I told him and he agrees she doesn't look/act as old as ten so we shouldn't suddenly be wrapping her in cotton wool and treating her like an old ill dog.

Just hope she continues to be healthy, we're taking her to the seaside in September, I can't wait :D She really has become my pride and joy. We have no kids and don't plan on any for at least 2 years so atm my pets are my kids <3

Have finally found a breeder who I am happy with so have contacted to be on the list for when he next decides to have a litter so I guess that's some good news today. Kia will love a puppy.

Whilst I understand you being a bit shocked and upset I think you should try to get over it and just love your dog. Well done to your for giving a rescue dog a loving home in the first place. Remember what you are giving your dog and what she will give you.

Better that she spends a short and happy time with you than a long time being miserable and badly treated.

Thanks, I feel a lot better about it today, think it was just the initial shock. Still a bit annoyed but nothing can be done about that.

Just been having a bad time as of late and this added to it.
