Daughter wanted a Monster High 13 Wishes doll which was marked up ad £12.50. Paid for it and it came up £23! DTD of £21.00 meaning the doll cost a lovely £2!

Well done! Which one was it please?

What happens if a tesco employee applies the wrong SEL to a product, and the correct SEL of the product is nowhere in sight, do Tesco have to honour the DTD in this case?

This depends it isn't as clear as having the correct sel in place with the wrong price on it but if the description on the sel could apply to the item I would argue for dtd.

The best they would do is honour the price below the product.
But no to Dtd. Has to be the sel for the right product.

Thank you both for replying :)

The product in question was Thorntons Classic Collection 274g and the SEL underneath the product was for Thorntons Premium Collection 214g. The SEL showed £3.00 (originally £8.00). When I scanned the product, it scanned at £7.30. I said that SEL showed the price to be £3.00 and there was no other Thorntons product around, so it's not like I picked up a misplaced product (it is a small Tesco Express). The employee went back and said "Sorry, I can't sell you this item for £3.00, someone put the wrong SEL". I asked to speak to the manager but they said the manager wasn't in. So not only was DTD not honoured, but not even the price. Wasn't sure where I stood so didn't insist. However, can't help thinking that at the very least the price should have been honoured.
  • Ok, 10 minutes ago, Tyrrels 150g bags of crisps, all labelled up as £1.50 each or 2 for £2. My two both went through at £2.19 each with no discount which totalled £4.38. After the correct cost of £2, dtd the refund was £4.76. So it's a healthy small profit and free crisps all round folks!

there were 3 flavours in my store marked with this offer. all 3 scanned at 2 for £2 :(. I thought it was bound to misprice as another flavour was marked [STRIKE]£3[/STRIKE] £2 for 0ne. thanks for the post anyway, worth a try as I needed crisps
  • hi, can someone please explain what dtd means please thanks
  • Double the difference

e.g if you are overcharged by £1 you get £2 back

    HTH
  • aw ok thanks, so does the sel mean the price on the tag or somthing and how do you check a price do you have to go to a self checkout to do it or are there machines dotted about the shop to check, cant ever think of noticing any, thanks

    SEL means.
    Shelf edge label.
Basically the price on the shelf.
You can find out the price by using price check machines (however most stores have got rid of these by now) or use the new "scan as you go/shop" handset which are being rolled out across many stores now. Great for checking prices ;) wouldn't however pay using one if you see a Dtd opportunity come your way

Also if you have a smartphone go on the Internet and check what they are selling it for online. 9/10 times it will say if the product is still on offer or not. Sometimes been rolled over.
