Aside from being offered the job of mucosal membrane care...

I have signed a contract :j... but the accompanying letter said offer was subject to references. I know that at least one of my referees had not sent off the reference as of last week - 'always lets people see them before they are sent' and couldn't get hold of me (which is a shame as they way things were planned my handover to the new staff was non-existent depsite me giving 3 months notice of leaving and staying on for an extra 6 weeks so I'm sure it would have been 'useful' if I could have gone back for a couple of weeks [/sarcasm]). Good job I don't think that this is a bit of a power trip to make sure they have my contact details.

So I am hoping that I have a job that starts at the end of next month, but it might all fall apart at the last minute (I have a feeling it will, was a bit too good to be true to be offered the job). But I am trying to ignore my fears and organise some accomodation and I think I have a car lined up (my first ever!).

I don't really like big upheavals, and this is a very drawn out one (applied for job in Feb) where I am not sure of the outcome (ie if I will actually be starting a new job). But hopefully it will all work out well :)

Good luck Nikkster - hope it all goes smoothly for you!

I got my first car when I moved to where you're going. It was built like a tank and had fuel consumption to match. Bet yours will be better than that.

Yesterday was mean reversion. I even stayed up to watch it despite kick-off not being until 2.30am! Bloody great it was.

I confess to having a teeny snooze from a little after half time until 9am.

Sport and economy is an interesting one. There's the obvious stuff of sports teams as businesses and sports stars as self-employed businessmen, in individual sports especially. Just look at the fuss Murray made when he couldn't find his watch when he won the US Open. Then there's the economic impact of sport: the shops were deserted here during both finals as they are in the UK when the Grand National is on. It's a huge area. I might even feel a Masters coming on (only joking Mrs Generali).
Did you ever watch the BBC series of Stephen Fry in America where he watched the football match between two universities. Ubnbelievavble razzamatazz and ceremony including planes doing a flypast. It's easy to find on youtube. Gives you a glimpse of the size of the US economy that they can afford such events.

I'm pulling mine out in the next few weeks.

Hedge infront of the house, to the one side of the gate, all coming out to be reached with yew so that it's neater, less wide, and a better backdrop for a border. We have dithered over it and suddenly we are there at the edge of bare root season and I just want to get on with it. I will miss the privacy for the house for a while, but next spring I might even start a border which will give some small screening till the hedge shoots up. Especially if I get the back of border height in quite early.

Well, I have been busy again, went to see Darren Hayes on Friday night with the wife, made me realise just how far xfactor is from true talent.

Electrician has finished all work in the house, kitchen is finished and plaster is in next week to do the living room, happy days indeed.

College football is a big money event in the US. It is the Saturday football game (NFL traditionally Sunday) and shown on TV. It is the feeder series to the NFL so more like say, the Championship than any comparable university series here, though even that's probably not a fair comparison. The Florida Gators - the college team of the University of Florida - has a similar capacity at its home stadium to Wembley Stadium at 88,000. In fact, many of the biggest stadiums in the states are owned by college teams rather than NFL ones. The largest stadium in America with a capacity of just short of 110,000, is the college stadium for the University of Michigan.

I watched most of it but not that episode although I am fully aware of how big College sports can be, especially Football. The Penn State scandal was huge news in Aus, a country that loves its sport.

The US economy is amazing: it is almost a quarter of the world's economy (using the GDP at purchasing power parity measurement) and it uses more than half the oil sold each year (yeah I know). It is home to 4 of the world's top 10 biggest companies, produces most of the top grossing films and music each year and almost all of the world's biggest charities started in the USA.

Lucky you! I've seen Darren Hayes live and he was great. Did he sing Affirmation? It is one of my favourite songs as with the exception of a couple of lines, it sums up my thoughts on life.

    Yes...

    1. Michigan Stadium (The Big House) of the Michigan Wolverines
    2. Beaver Stadium of the Penn State Nittany Lions
    3. Neyland Stadium of the Tennessee Volunteers
    4. Ohio Stadium of the Ohio State Buckeyes
    5. Bryant-Denny Stadium of the Alabama Crimson Tide
    6. Memorial Stadium of the Texas Longhorns

all over 100,000 seats, and all on campus.

The largest NFL stadium is the former Gator Bowl in Jacksonville which seats 85,000, and comes in at only #14 on the list of largest seating capacities.

P.S. For stadium saddo's like me the largest Baseball only stadium is Dodger Stadium in LA which holds about 56,000 (although the Oakland Coliseum holds more for Football, capacity is lower for Baseball)

P.P.S. I have been lucky enough to visit nearly all the biggest sports stadiums in the U.S. and by far the best atmosphere was at Tigers Stadium in Baton-Rouge Louisiana for an Alabama-LSU grudge-fest

P.P.P.S. Tiger Stadium, which holds about 93,000 is only the 4th biggest in the SEC (South Eastern Conference) of the NCAA, and only the 10th biggest in the whole NCAA (U.S. Universities) but it is also the 17th largest in the whole World.

    .

That'll be me then. Whenever I get a chance I visit the Olympic stadiums. I also like to walk the Grand Prix street circuits. I'm trying to find out whether this is actually feasible in Singapore or whether I will be mown down due to the fact I'll be walking on a motorway. I don't stop at sports venues either. My particular thing is bridges:o.
