People do that over the internet.

Guy near me set up a whole audio typing thing over the net, now has loads of staff and used by a lot of MPs.
I know it's done over the Internet.... but I've got one bedroom, that's already overcrowded with my stuff .... including kitchenware and my drying washing on an airer. I can barely make it to the door ... and still most of my stuff is in storage so I have to keep going there for this n that.

There's no space for a proper desk, or chair.

And the LL wouldn't like me running a business from here.

I have no broadband that's "mine", nor ability to install any phone line. So if the broadband dies, I don't have control over getting it sorted.

PN do you think there is any chance that because you are special that you are ruling out jobs you could get because you don't meet the exact specification whereas others might assume there could be some flexibility?
I guess I always assume if they ask for stuff they'll want/get it. But, equally, most jobs are for "Senior ... with X years provable ..... " as well as a raft of stuff (skills, experiences, systems) I've no knowledge of whatsoever.

Jobs I've skimmed through seem to fall into two categories [1] part-time call centre .... [2] High level super-experienced technical management.

    So, I can't do [2] and I don't want [1].

Maybe it's just a seasonal thing and come October there'll be a whole new raft of jobs :)

Doozer you don't by any chance know of a cunning way of getting an airlock out of a central heating circuit?

DO you know where the airlock is?

We knew where ours was airlocked and switched every other radiator off to increase the pressure to that one place. We could feel the heat moving down the pipe as it pushed the air along.

Thanks, I know where it starts, it is in the flow not the return and I. Have tried switching off all the dad's except the one immediately after that point but to no avail. The builder should sort it hence my not wanting to pay for a plumber but of course they never turn up.
    I think....

What would NP do .... if there is a job, advertised through 10 agencies .... and you apply through one in the first instance, then, 24 hours later they email you to say

"Unfortunately, in this instance, your application has not been successful. I am sorry we were unable to assist you with this position."

... would you (out of spite more than anything else), simply google the heck out of that specific job and apply through ALL agencies?

I suspect the agency's applied the common "Limit of 3" rule - and once they've put 3 OK candidates forward that's the end of their time trying to match for it .... I doubt they've actually read my CV or run it past the spec/client at all. So if I can find an agency that hasn't submitted 3 applicants yet ....

Might as well, eh. Nothing else to do.

    :)

Edit: So, I spent a bit of time establishing that the job was appearing "everywhere" on the internet, but when it came down to it, it was one agency .... or ... direct. So I spent 50 minutes writing a nice covering letter and sending that direct.

    Hello, how's everybody?

Been busy...bloody quarter end again...but skimmed through the last couple of pages, and wanted to give my best wishes to everybody looking for a job, a new boyfriend, a PHD or a crocodile skin loo.

Our 96-year old neighbour, Marge, has been picked up by ambulance some time ago. Happened before, but now her place is up for sale, so I suppose we won't see her again. :(

    Yes, of course.

N.B. For opinions on Employment Agencies see thread about Estate Agents.

All EA's are unqualified morons

    Application in....now the waiting starts.

Re housing benefit and not telling them of the small changes, I could never ever do that, I just wouldn't be able to sleep at night. Hence why a job which would allow me to still claim housing benefit would give me nightmares......I like a bit of overtime from time to time (and in my old sector, that was a common occurance, even during the last recession!)
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Years ago, I stopped doing PA work because there was none in my region; companies started giving people PCs and expecting them to do all their own work. So, I moved onwards and upwards and that's when I got into the whole IT thing .... trouble is, now I've moved regions, it appears that there are a number of PA roles round these parts that pay higher than the IT jobs I am spotting/could do ..... so, keen to 'reverse' and go for those, except people can be blinkered and wonder why I'd want to be "just a PA" when I have "all this good IT stuff" on the CV .... MONEY - that's why..... because PA work is easier than IT work and pays more money. Only a chimp wouldn't see that..... and, imho, it's all the same skills - just one's got a whole raft of technical competency bolted on.
