I enjoyed the studying part, but the writing up has been (and still is) painful for all concerned.

fc123 - what PN said: never leave the NP. Hope that the fact we haven't seen much of you recently means that work is going awesomely and keeping you busy. :)

...what a lovely sentence to find :) Yes I am online and desperately trying to keep up but have skimmed and missed entire pages:o..and, no I will always pop in plus hang out a lot when time and headspace is clutter-lite.

    HAI!!

    Long time no mither :)

It's sad when everybody around you seems to have these older people issues and you realise life's not going to be like on the telly with people alert and speaking up to the last 10 seconds when they simply slide away, contented, surrounded by family who gently sob. Instead it's quite traumatic and sad.

    :(

Nice to see you. Never leave the NP!

I know. Worst one recently is DD's aquantances mother who literally dropped dead within 24 hours of a brain heamorage. It was about 7 weeks ago (?) Only 38 and left a 6 yr old. She is out tonight with her for the 1st time since. All tricky for a bunch of teens to deal with but they all seem to know what to say and how much support to give as reqd.

OK, .......sending good luck messages to SS and PN with the job quests.
2nd, did I see 'ambulance' and LIR mentioned? Is everything OK?
..and keep at it on the Phd Nikkster.

Work is going through 'a transition phase' (sounds very Bowie circa 78) whereby the 'now' is very busy but i have got to put time and thought into 'next'.

The hard bit is doing the 'next' and letting it gently overlap with the 'now' so there is no gap. It's hard to explain.

It's one of those times when I wish I had a 'proper job' with someone making the decisions and deciding what to do, which way to move forward etc.

However I did go check out a shop (to let) tonight after work, ironically owned for the past 25 years by someone who was an inspiration to me when I first did my market stall back in....1985 (!). They had a stall by me at the time.

I miss delivering directly to the public unfettered by corporate dictat.

There is a yawning gap for my new idea (I believe :)) + rents are now down by about 40% (yay).

*snag* OH is not keen at all. What to do I don't know but I will continue the 'research' and wait and see.

I mean we now have a stable manufacturing base, are very web savvy and have learnt a lot of useful tips from the corps during the past 4 years.
I keep telling him it would combine every positive thing we have ever done, complete the creative traingle so to speak. He's still not keen.:(

Keep up the research and wear him down with the fabulous place you find to rent at an amazing price? :)

It must be really difficult trying to keep up not only with 'now' but 'next' too. ESP when now has been so busy. The overlap - I guess its not easy when now has such a strong identity, but I'm sure you will work it out :)

How many hours is the part time one, and in what way would it be a financial hassle?

PN - hope the hold-ups live up to their name. Looking forward to hearing how the interview went. :)

15 hours give or take....and it would be a financial hassle because I would probably still be entitled to some housing benefit and council tax benefit with that amount of wages, so I would be paranoid every extra hour I did because of constantly having to update the HB office of a change of circumstance. It would be an absolute nightmare trying to keep up with it all.

I would rather go full time, be completely off housing benefit/council tax benefit and not have the hassle and stress and then only have the worry over changing tax credits.

Edit - But if the part time one was offered, I would bite their hands off to be honest! Something is better than nothing at all.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

I tend not to lose things .... or forget where the car is ... because they're part of my "Terrified To..." list. Every time I park the car in a car park, I get out, stop, look around, spot the clues, work out where it is ..... actively making that note.

For bags etc, I try to only ever have ONE bag I am carrying. That way I know [a] I always have a bag of sorts .... There's only one.

If I have more than two bags and I have to let go, I wrap them together, entwining the handles, so I can't overlook anything. Then, when I am leaving a space, I treble check :)

    OCD Genius :)

We are so alike it is uncanny! Ex hubby always used to laugh at me jotting down where we had parked the car in a multi story and taking note of landmarks to use...always came in handy though!

I'm the same as you with bags too...and cupboards too close to a heat source.

Sue, the best way to get back into work is to ease yourself in, preferably part-time first.

It will also ease your sons into the knowledge that you aren't going to be around 24/7, without it being a full blow to them.

Saying that, having to constantly deal with housing/benefit for some of the most vulnerable in the area, I can officially tell you that the benefit department are an absolute pain in the @r5e, as they need proof of this, proof of that and the only explanation they'll give is 'because we're audited', claiming they can't give any more for 'fraud prevention reasons'. OH's sister used to work for the firm that does the auditing for DWP, and she'll tell you, they don't get audited that far, they just have to have reasonable justification for paying benefit, and 9/10 times, if they're not asking for statements every 3 months 'because they're audited' my advice, if it were legal (which it isn't,) would be not to tell them altogether :mad::mad::mad:

We ran a test case on another Cllr's property (Cllr is subsidised by ex and doesn't claim anything over her £4000p.a council allowance), and they took 18 weeks to sort a HB/CTB claim (10 weeks from her ex sending a letter threatening her being thrown out. They failed to check bank statements obviously linked to other accounts she submitted evidence for (these accounts had over £140,000 combined in them) and they failed to check ID of any children involved. This is the incompetence that goes with DWP unfortunately. No benefit was paid in this circumstance for the above reasons, however she could have been evicted in these circumstances, with this timeframe.

LIR, We've no driveway you could park on (our front garden's just a waste of space TBH). So, we have to park our cars on side roads. About half the time we can't remember which ones and I'm losing track of the times I set off down one road in the morning before turning back when I realise there's no sign of it - and I'm supposed to be around the age you reach your cognitive peak!:)

i know you are a family based business but would now be a good time to get someone into 'management' and work with them? They can deal with everything you and DH don't want to and expand into a couple of other directions.

I always remember there was a scientific journal called "Mucus". Can't quite remember knocking other customers out of the way to buy it . For the non-scientists here, the way scientists used to catch up with new research pre-internet was to read a small magazine (booklet really) called "Current Contents" which contained the contents pages of all recent science journals (written in English).

Mucus wasn't even close to being the most obscure title they had. One was actually called the "Journal of Ice Cream Manufacturers of The German Democratic Republic". I think the Eastern bloc kept its most important research under lock and key and only released information of doubtful strategic importance. :D

Nikkster, good luck with the thesis!
