Trousers hemmed, bathed, hair straighteners waved vaguely in the direction of mop. Not even sure those trousers fit..... I'll try them on in the next hour or so.

CV and covering letter written, James is printing off the CV at school today.....having second thoughts on the full time thing though!

My parents think I am plain crazy for trying to go full time as the boys still need so much care and they are worried that not only will it be dangerous for the boys but that it would also be far too much for me to take on..trying to work full time and still be up all hours of the night with youngest, or being called out of work as one of the boys are having problems at school.

I've not bothered to discuss it with school or any other bod involved with the boys because I know what they will say.....not to do it, not the right time yet etc etc etc

But I want to get back, the boys are getting older and I have to start back sometime, preferably sooner rather than later.

Anyway, we could be worrying over nothing, knowing my luck, the company will take one look at the amount of time I have been out and throw my application in the bin...I'm probably only good enough now for minimum wage jobs . Who the hell would want me and all my baggage?
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

  • Other reasons I hate wall cabinets:
1] Where wall cabinets are either side of the stove/hob, I am scared the heat will set them alight
2] Where a toaster is used under/near a wall cabinet I am scared the heat will set them alight.

But then I'm also scared that the heat of a hob would set alight any worktop if the hob were fitted to the worktop .... and that the heat from an oven might set fire to a base unit adjacent.

Welcome to my Full O' Fear life :)

There's also the possibility, that if you packed the wall cabinets with heavy items such as tins of food etc, the cabinets could pull from the wall and fall directly on to the hob, the hob could then set fire to the cabinet, or the cabinet could put the flame out on the hob and you could have a gas escape.

You would also have to re-plaster the wall where the cabinets fell from, but that is just a small matter in the scheme of things.

Yes, it's a risky business putting cabinets near a hob. :p

Nonsense. You still have the skills you used to have. 6 years is not that long. You've kept your hand in with your website. And most importantly, you've learnt masses from the last 6 years of determination, problem-solving, perseverance, pastoral care, advocacy and budget management. Any company should be thrilled to find someone who can bring all that to the job.

Whether it's best for you to go from nothing to full time in one step or more gradually is another question, though. Only you can answer that. I know I wouldn't want to go full time yet with my kids at the stage they are (both in terms of their ages and their progress through their bereavement and their needs because of it). You're not me, though, and you're not in the same line of work, so YMMV.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

Thanks Lydia, the sensible part of me is saying to go for the part time job they have available but the financial head one is saying it's less hassle financially going for the full time one.

    Arrggghhhhhhh!

    I've applied for both anyway....

Would the part time one have the opportunity to increase hours - or vice versa?

Yes, I do worry about the weight and what's in them :)

Although, generally, I can only reach/use the bottom shelf and some of the next one up.

Possibly for the part time vacancy....I know I could change my hours when I was working there before, in fact, my contracted 12.5 hours usually ended up as more over the week doing an extra hour here and there when the boys care allowed.

For the full time one, not sure if they would allow a reduction in hours.
