You know that's not true. Your 2-4-1 voucher is for any flight, any class, anywhere. So first class to Australia is possible. The only condition is that you have to book the "1" ticket using miles and pay all the taxes.
We've only just got the card, OHs business flights are now all booked on Amex.
well, alright, i might get a bit further than newquay with 20,000, maybe paris, but it ain't going to get me much further than that.
they're better for upgrading a flight but obviously the voucher doesn't work for you there.0 -
...judging what some people get away with on FB, you'd have to be really, really bad to get your account deleted.
That’s my opinion too.
I’ve seen racist abuse, foul language and the most beautiful women that have ever been on Jeremy Kyle

You still have to pay taqxes and charges so not that great.
The big saving is if you have a BA Amex card and spend over ?20k? as this will give you a 2-4-1 voucher for any avios purchased flight which effectively doubles the value of the points.
Martin has done a good article on this putting a value on all the different sorts of points.
it's still pretty naff unless you have loads.
if you have 50,000 points you can get a free flight one way to sydney on BA. that flight would have cost you about £300 (ex taxes which are another £300 ish) so you're looking at saving £600 with the voucher, its that's barely better than the £500 you would have got with 1% cashback (and only actually better if you wanted to fly somewhere).
if you had 100,000 you could go business and double up. you would be "saving" more like £1,700 x 2 = £3,400, but the flight would still cost £400 so actually you've only really saved £200 x 2 compared to the economy price which is what you would have spent without them, and "poshed it up" whilst foregoing £1,000 of cashback, so you're £600 down, basically. probably.0 -

Yep, i have heard too many horror stories of such sort to be putting my life on there. Much better here where at least i have a thin veil of anonymity.
I signed up once for about three days to see what the fuss was, poked single sue in the face which felt very rude and then signout forever:D0 -

Yes, but, no, but, yes, but....I dunno.
Bottom line is you want a holiday, you can collect points (and often get mega points offers like 19,000 for taking out an Amex card etc). so the flights are pretty much sorted.
of course the more valuable ticket you get using miles the more the free 2-4-1 is worth, so the better deal it becomes.
IMO the "poshing-it-up" is well worth it. I wouldn't want to fly to Sydney in economy full stop. Flying to other long haul destinations in business means you arrived ready to go, rather than needing a day to recover from your flight.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. It's a great investigation tool for me too....an absolute godsend to my site when trying to find out who is going to a specific meeting or for asking if people are going to a specific meeting. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

And I never actually realised! I ignore my notifications so people could be poking away and I would never know :rotfl:We made it! I’m the same; even to Moscow we’re going Club Europe, as the new Aeroflot stuff (which I think we’re on) is better than the BA stuff

CK
i'd obviously prefer to fly business, but i ain't paying my own money 2 people to go return to australia in business when i could have three weeks in the maldives for the same price. even this year when i've done pretty well it would still be 12.5% of my take home pay on something which lasts 2 days. that is not a good ratio of cost to duration!
obviously i would happily upgrade using avios if i had enough!0
