yay, paralympic closing ceremony.lostinrates wrote: »I did not see para opening or closing ceremonies. I have wondered though, were the performers in them disabled or just key performers in the troupe?
Fleeting visit, but wow, that was amazing. Hope you enjoyed it missk. We were sat high in the stadium but fantastic view and just behind the team GB athletes. It felt less like a closing ceremony and more like a really, really expensive concert. In fact I don't think I'll ever be able to go to a stadium gig again because I'll be thinking "where are the motorcyclists on tightropes" and "where are the fire jugglers" and "why isn't anyone riding an aircraft engine".
Lir it was a mix of disabled and able bodied performers. The music was by Coldplay, with Rihanna and Jay Z guesting. The only hard part was that due to the lighting we weren't allowed to stand up as you would at a normal gig (except for national anthems and ovations). Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

What gets me is that DYS is oblivious of the contrast between "I'm an adult, and you can't tell me what to do" and "The car's broken, dad, so how are you going to get me to Edinburgh?"
I can actually relate to that.....eldest is exactly the same!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Spot on.
I'm not sure GDB will be loving it just at the moment.
Or perhaps that's just my intolerant nature shining through. :cool:0 -

I have never met any of the people mentioned.
But the interesting thing is that it is assumed that its peasanta and him. His house is not even the most valuable in the area. (though one with the most kudos in the village certainly). We are comfortable weekenders, there are a lot of 'wealthy' people about, not that sort of wealth necessari
Y, who is!, but top one percenters certainly. Lord leutenant etc, all live within a few miles, a few a listers,Lots of dual lifestylers and enough money sloshing around to maintain the pubs (we actually have a pub in each and Every one of the villages round here, increasining ly rare) and they cater for most sorts. E.g. Couple of miles in the other direction there is a 'big tv' and gammon and eggs type pub, which is friendly and very community, then there is that one, which....is what it is, other direction again (the way michaels would have a approached and viva should have ...in fact, viva probably saw them all) we have my favourite, a tiny and traditional village pub with a standing bar, and a small not fancy but not shabby eating bit. Choc a block with locals of all social strata. The issue with his pub is that the management until recently has been very mixed. Unlike a traditional landlord set up in a village when someone has had too much and becomes too much they will quietly be refused or given a coffee, and through the evening served last to slow them down, there, when we went in, because it was just inexperienced and non local bar staff, that was not happening. It was not good.
Mixing (or not not mixing) is very important. Its ok ish nt to go to the village events (we go to very few, in fcat, this year we have overstepped boundaries by saying we might jot go to harvest supper, as local 'farmers' its a bit insulting, but the thing is that i just haven't been well enough to cope with it, as i feel better i might say that and get tickets). Now, its the sort of thing he should be at too. Not everything is obligatory, but somethings are rude not to attend really. Coming in to a pub, not smiling at anyone and going uopstairs to a private room is worse than just not going, for example.
As it turns out, i think we might be a bit conflicted on this one, but i did not relaise that til dh told me to tow the line a little:D and play the diplomat if i was called off the bench and into the game. And tbh, i think its easy to do. I have said here often enough rural communities should not bite hands that feed them, but also, here, there is not just one feeding hand...and if you want to be squire then you have repsonsibilities.0 -
Right... got my proper PC, with my CV, out of storage.... now let's fire it up and see if it still works
Edit: Well - that works.... and of course it now wants to update shedloads of stuff and run scans etc from updated security downloads.... and stuff.... so that'll be hours.0 -
Oh dear. I seem to be quite late for work. Might get there before 10.30 if I'm lucky. Whoops.0

Busy weekend, including mad dash to Manchester for a funeral. So annoying as we have at least 3 other occasions in the next few months when we have planned visits there, including next weekend to deposit DS at uni.lostinrates wrote: »Sshhh, scared to say it in case i jinx it but......

Glad you are feeling better, hope it lasts. My shop of £30.02 in Asda would apparently have only cost me £3.32 in Tesco so I now have an Asda voucher for 27.04...oops
Experts recommend using the voucher to buy clothes and then returning the clothes.
I do wonder whether people cost in the time and petrol spent getting to asda at least twice to do these deals.GDB222 wrote:What gets me is that DYS is oblivious of the contrast between "I'm an adult, and you can't tell me what to do" and "The car's broken, dad, so how are you going to get me to Edinburgh?"
My kids answer is that it is the parents fault for not teaching them these skills so they still need help, whereas all the other stuff they can deal with...allegedly.
You didn't really want him driving all the way to Edinburgh anyway.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
