Just wanted to thank the NP for their support last term when DS had such a disastrous meltdown over leaving primary school, and report that he seems to have been absolutely fine with starting secondary school - done 4 days now.

It's the first really summery weekend of the year: 27C with a boiling hot sun. I did the sausage sizzle at the kids school for the local elections which I reckon has raised a few grand: a local butcher supplies the sausages and bacon, a local baker the rolls and a local cafe does coffees with a portable coffee machine.
The school had a quiz night the other weekend that raised north of $15k too so that's $20k+ raised in a fortnight which will pay a part time Teacher's wages. It's a bit sad in some ways because if there was a primary school that didn't need extra money it's ours: it could be much better spent out west or in country NSW. One of the things that makes this a nice area is that people are community minded and have enough money to follow through with it for the most part.
Out west there's less of a community spirit in general, much of which is due to racial division sadly, and in the rural areas there simply isn't the money to support big fundraising for the most part.
Unfortunately, the alternative to some places being mediocre and a few doing ok is everyone being mediocre (sorry if that's too political for the nice peeps).0 -
Can you say which one?
It is called La Tour. Doesn't look much from the outside but reminds me of a fancy boutique hotel inside (except it is too big to be a boutique hotel, I think).
Wedding today of someone I went to school with. I found last night very difficult as I havent seen a few of these people since 1997 and I haven't got much to say to them!0 -
Plus mor ethan 5 minutes of listening to the accent is pretty much hard work!chewmylegoff wrote: »It is called La Tour. Doesn't look much from the outside but reminds me of a fancy boutique hotel inside (except it is too big to be a boutique hotel, I think).

Its not quite a case of nimbyism exactly. In fact, its an incredibly welcoming area, not least because the huge miltary presence here means people from all over arrive and leave regularly, and its well with in weekender belt.
He did buy in a stupid location for what he wants to do. Incidentally, he did want our place (we bought the survey he had had done) but we were rold he throught it too expensive to be profitable.
I note they did not mention a few other legally dubious things relating to planning/listed buildings and wildlife protection that re hot on the rumour mill here.
I have never met him either. If he pulled his horns in i think it could be excellent for the village. The pub there serves great food and is beautiful (apart from the conservatory which is like a sunken fishbowl in the car park) and is probably a tax loss. I use it for lunch with friends sometimes, especially friends with children, as the lack of atmosphere makes it the sort of place. A toddler can have a moment iyswim. And there is a playground.
A lot of people simply don't like people who have so much more (probably why we are not too unpopular is it is clear we cannot seal the place up get it done up and move ipn later). And that is not his fault. A lot of the other carp is. He was asked to take over some stuff relation to what i found in the artical i read, this would have been charitable donation and so maybe he is 'full to the brim' of that. Bupe cause he has chosen not to. Its a great shame because a 'big house' centred village often does build community spirit. And also, well, he is very much mistaken if he thinks he is the only person who could understand his 'lifestyle' local to him. Choices, however, he might be alone in.
Next time you visit we can go to the pub if you like, but don't scream at the roices, huh? They do pie.0 -

Is it even legal, doesn't the alligator want it back?

Atm mauve squeaker is obcessed with it and keeps climbing up on me and licking it, hard. So i have to keep taking her reluctant claws out of my flesh and putting her down. I think the alligator would choose me keeping it over suffering the incessant grooming of a determined cat.
Mist still has not cleared here yet!0 -

Really pleased Sue has got some improvement in the situation, especially the turnaround for middle son - great result there! Hope youngest manages to adapt eventually to the new deal for him, too.
Middle son had a similar meltdown at the end of primary school, the police even had to be called out (he escaped from the school and went missing), so I was the same as you when he started high school......he went in as happy as larry to High School and apart from a few (very few) ripples, has been fine.
Such a change to his primary years!
Really glad to hear things have gone well for your son too Lydia....they are a worry aren't they!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
