It is difficult if you are at home - as you are adults but do not have a whole house to spread out in. We have a sitting room as part of our kitchen which we largely leave for her but the storage is not great (so things move up to her room) and she really needs more for her books, technology and current stuff.
With regards to getting rid of old stuff she says at present that "she doesn't want anything to change".
Could you ask one of your parents to help with the decluttering? I am thinking about how to help my DD at present as she is accumulating 'stuff' in her room too. If she asked me I would help - but I have to respect her privacy and also .....not molly coddle her.....or she will never fly the nest.
If she asks I will help, andin the eman time when I am well enough try to help in less intrusive practical ways.
I don't think I could ask them - I'm sure they would help, but I'm not sure I could cope with them going through my stuff (not that any of it is locked away so they could poke through it if they wanted). Also, I think I need to do it myself. It felt great sorting and shredding etc all that stuff - like disposing of the past or something along those lines.
All being well, I will be leaving here in a few weeks (crosses fingers). At that point I will make sure all of my stuff is in one place (my room, at the moment there is some stuff in the dining room, and a couple of boxes of kitchen stuff elsewhere), and make sure the door can be shut so no-one has to look at it.0 -
Q for lir, that space looks amazing. Is the ceiling going in or are you leaving the roof vaulted internally? If the latter where are the lights going?
Thank you.
You mean the hideous ly expensive beautiful dark mermaidy lights, ofcourse right? :rotfl:
Its reamining vaulted. What you cannot see in the snap is the new beam nice builders have put in at the top of that, um, a frame thingy, running as a spine to the room. That has holes in if for a central light between the two a frame thingis, and then, above future kitchen island, lights either side. Cannot remember how the either side lights are supported, but i remember a long conversation with the lively electricians about it.0 -
twice are the best but not comfort for mother of child0

I'm so jealous! That looks fabulous and just in the sort of state we want to find for our next/last move.
We've seen something we'd both love but we can't afford it <sigh>
Can't decide whether to go and view it so I can find out why it's wrong so I can put it out of my mind, in case I love it and will just want it even more.
Oh don't be jealous JB! but there are so many lovely places out there. Besudes, jealousy could be cured by a swap of bank balance i guess. :rotfl:. Only the nice builders have made this possible at this stage. Are you in their area? I cannot remember where you are, but if you are well...i recommend them. They travel so far to me,.?.
Edit, if you are near them why not ask them to look rpund and give ballpark estimate. But please do not take my next phase slot with them!0 -

I have lurked on that thread
I am planning on dealing with a bag a day. Some stuff will move when I do, and the rest of it will fit in my room. It is pretty much all in bags/ boxes already, just needs some of it to be released back into the wild!
De-cluttering will be my 'treat' - I will allow myself a bag when I have done some of the 'other stuff' :rotfl:0 -
Also jb, another reason not to be jealous? Iirc you are tall......our doorways are not, even if most of our ceilings are. We have one very low ceiling. It would not suit a tall person.0

Oh no it's not the builders I'd have trouble with. I'd use the ones we used for here.
I can't even afford to buy it never mind do work on it! I need to sell a kidney.0 -
