On the lease termination, one person cannot terminate a joint tenancy and move out if the other one stays unless the LL agrees to vary the contract. But I doubt that is actually an issue if the tenancy has now ended and all the rent has been paid for the whole period. The fact they have returned your deposit draws a line under everything I think. Their only recourse would be to take you to court and try to sue you and it sounds like they would have about a zero chance of winning (although you should not of course rely on my rubbish opinion).
I was in a similar situation once, the LL kept ringing me up and leaving voicemails telling me that I owed him money (he was a crazy Greek chap who showed me how all the light switches worked when I moved in). I just ignored him and he gave up.0 -
Pastures - if any of it rubs off on you I just want you to know how much you have always meant to me, and that we will be best friends forever.
take care
always yours

Let's just say ..... that people with money like to hold onto it .... else I'd have not been required0 -
I believed that if ONE person ends a lease (in writing, properly, by the book), then the whole lease is then ended. If one party decided to stay on, that'd require a new contract.... or they'd be deemed a squatter....0

Pn, maybe knew he had to make it or live with his mum for ever.0

I do definitely know I handled it badly. I should have anticipated other people (ex and landlords) both being awkward. In fairness, ll's did help to give back the deposit as it wasn't me they put down as 'lead tenant' (depsite the inital cheques being mine 4 years ago) so they got it changed.
I have tried to cooperate, and I have no idea why they didn't wait to return the deposit (I wasn't going to argue). I just don't want to hear from them again that another £2 item is 'missing'!
Edit - I have decided that £17 is cheap to avoid spending the weekend trying to contact someone who isn't answering my calls. I have also just transferred the money as I don't want them to have my address here which the might get if I ordered the items for them to pick up.
I expect my next update on this will be the ll not being happy at the amount I have paid - they suggested roughly double for two items only, and I have thrown in a washing up bowl on top of that.0 -
I've just discovered that my nephews and nieces added their family dog to facebook. The dog died a year ago. So, I am now 'friended' with a dead dog on facebook. And people paid billions for this company! No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Tbilisi+35 conference has gone amazingly, and because I'm going to be a snobby parent here; dont my children look so different when they're not airbrushed? (Photo will disappear in about an hour)

Why do your children spell their surname differently? To give the little one the initials XX?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. If your name is on the tenancy agreement and you paid rent from an account with your name on it the you may have formed a contract with them. If you've done that then you could be jointly and severably liable for all unpaid rent. Terminating a joint tenancy isn't as easy as saying you've moved out and the other tenant is now liable for the whole rent - that's not how the law works as far as I understand it. I do think it's worth explaining your situation on the buying and renting board you will get some good advice on there.

Nik, don't continue yo berate yourself. We all handle things less than perfectly at sometime. You could have done a moonlight flit from ex, instead you are seeing things through. So you made a mistake. Price paid, lesson learned. Too young and full of potential to worry any more about it.
