Looking at that, I think I would prefer to stick the kit in the boot of the car....the kit is worth somewhere in the region of £500 with all the extras!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Probably he's right. If longer blades make them go faster, this could quickly degenerate into a 'man on stilts' race. That might be fun, but it's a different sport. In the meantime, if it's within the rules, he needs to put up with it.

So is stilt racing for the olympics or paraolympics?

Sorry to hear the nhs is messing you around lir.

When dad had the snazzy state of the art radiotherapy, there were doctors from 3 specialties and 2 hospitals, specialist nurse staff and less specialist people. On the day he got a phone call to say he had to check in 3 hours time to check if a bed was available!

There was a telly programme about 2-3 years ago, where some business leader took control of a hospital to see if he could improve things, by applying common sense, logic and business basics.

There was a long waiting list for surgery - he got it cleared.

The NHS is inefficient as they have facilities sitting around, unused, because the Consultants act like Gods and spend most of their time on the golf course and won't commit to anything .... but like to breeze in and out with an air of importance surrounding them.

By getting all staff, including Consultants, to run with the ideas, he got them streamlined, operating theatres staffed/working .... and a waiting list cleared.

It's an 18th century system, pandering to people who think they're God .... while facilities, staff and resources are squandered 'waiting in attendance' for the next few hours they were graced with a visit...

Edit: Can Gerry Robinson Fix the NHS. An HSJ random page about it http://www.hsj.co.uk/news/gerry-robinson-and-the-nhs/3705.article

So, i have calmed down a bit and thought about it and i have decided i am not going to have it done anyway. I think. My dad is apoplectic and dh is scared, but my mother is in agreement with me.

It has never sat right for me that this is the right thing to do, and the confusion, contradictions and administrative errors and proceedural failures have undermined my already shakey confidence in those treating me.

My dad and dh are suggesting i make no firm decision yet, but give it two weeks, see how i feel then, after the adrenaline has left the system. My mother is saying she will pay if we can find somewhere private to have it done (but she won't, if thats what we choose, if it is an option, dh and i will find the money). Dad said he will by me the new horse if i have it done,, (bribery or what?) but if i get a new horse i will buy it myself thank you very much. (i am considering looking at the native sales for the relative national parks in the south. Maybe getting a couple of proper ponies to show in hand for a couple of years.

I just know this has never been the right thing *for me* even if it seems appropriate for my brain. Proceedures have never scared me even though i hate doctors, and while that fear has been confined to gps i now find i feel increasingly the same about consultants.

So, if i have it done, it will NOT be at that hospital, and i think its pretty unlikely i will now.

My dad is saying he wonders what crazy arris'ed decisions i would be taking had i not taken something to calm me down this morning. :)

I think considering mozzarella and basil as a snack (and having them) is posh ... when you consider the non-posh snack-fest would probably have said a cheese sandwich :)

I bought mozzarella once, for a pizza topping. Wasn't very impressed with it .... it was a Tesco value pack.... cheese in watery stuff. It didn't cook up to be thick and stringy like mozzarella should be.

How did you cook it up?

Its needs only a very short time, too long and it goes less good. I would not attempt, for example, to get it golden and crusty like on many a uk pizza, but just for a short time on a high heat. If not using all of it straigh away you pour the water in a little bowl and put what is left of the uncut chess in it and cover with saran wrap so that the cheese does not dry out.

Oh and I don't like egg and soldiers but my kids love them...

    OH loves egg and soldiers.

I prefer to nearly completely hard-boil the egg (we have the same ace gadget as LIR, so can normally judge this fairly well), peel whilst hot and then slap it in the middle of one piece of buttered warm granary bread, fold it in half and scoff. sometimes with a bit of mayo just for a change.

I'll have bunged it on a pizza. I didn't use it all, I decanted the liquid and the remaining cheese into a lidded pot and put it back in the fridge.

    :)

LIR - I am going to stick my nose in here - look away now if you do not want me to care - this is not the right day to be making decisions to decline diagnostics or therapeutic procedures.

Despite all the mess ups, no one is trying to cause you you misery - it is just happening. This is one of those times when you have to 'give it up to your higher power' and then get on with it. Not today, but in a day or two when you can find the resilience or sense of humour to engage with the hospital merry-go-round agin. Contact your Consultant's Med Sec and ask them for help.

Bribing you with a horse is entirely understandable.

I meanwhile have not had the mozzarella as I have had a roll with pork, stuffing, apple sauce and a side order of crackling. Have got dressed and tried to do some work emails. I may regret at least one of them so I have stopped.

26 years old and still love Boiled Eggs and dippy soldiers.....nom nom.

Me too - & twice your age.

I do associate boiled eggs with a moment of humiliation in junior school.
Communion Assembly - Parish Priest: "In mass this morning we are going to talk about an important food. It will be whole and we will break it. Who knows what it is?"

Spirit aged 6 or 7 holds hand up and is 'chosen' to answer: "Chucky egg". I can still hear hear the sniggering from other children .

It wasn't only that I got it wrong it was that what I knew as a chucky egg was really called a boiled egg. Oh the shame.
