bonus day is fun, this year my bonus was more than my entire salary was in my first year of work. i wish someone could design some bloody PAYE software with logic in it which doesn't assume that you will earn that much a month for the rest of the tax year - they pay ours in april so i got nailed for 50% tax on most of it which is still slowly dribbling back as it adjusts itself every month since.0 -
Exactly. We spend our time visiting friends and family too.
Tbh, the long holidays in the education sector are an illusion. We pay top dollar to go anywhere. Cheap January holidays?
In our dreams!
plus basically all bank holidays fall inside your normal holiday, so you don't get many 4 day weeks for a bit of respite. i get 7 weeks paid holiday a year plus bank holidays. no way would i swap that for teachers' holidays! for a start i'd have to go skiing at half term with (a) kids everywhere and (b) pay double.0 -

I miss Brighton really badly
It's in the plan to move back there permanently (to sell London place and buy not rent).
We have set 5 years as realistic and I pray house prices just trundle along as they are (or drop but I think that's unlikely in real terms) just not go up as it will probably be a trade up as houses soooo expensive down there.....but with good reason.
OH bought a BMW estate recently and it's a solid, useful vehicle. worth looking out for one. It is 05 plate and was £3500. Drives like a new car, great on fuel and nippy too.
We don't miss the Freelander at all.
I am in Brighton, london house/rent prices but without the wages. Job situation is pretty dire down here too, American Express is the only real " big " player, but like you I absolutely love it down here, you just can't beat a sea view. I will be sad to go (applying to uni ) next year.8k in 2015 Challenge ( #167)0 -

I'm coming back at 77, and could possibly live to 90 if I looked after myself.
It's telling me not to work as much, to give up smoking/drinking and to cut back on certain types of food....none of which are going to happen soon!

Good to see you back here middymum. Hope the uni application goes smoothly. As regards cost, Brighton's almost as bad as London and Aberdeen too for accommodation.
Had friends who lived on the A259 beachfront road. Lovely basement flat they had (rented it). Parking was so difficult you had to warn them when you were coming so they could keep a parking space for you.
They had to move away before starting a family as there wasn't much housing suitable for families. Actually when you think about it there's not many houses bigger than two-three bedrooms in much of London. Ours is four-bed but we're so close to the edge of London I cross the boundary when I walk the dog every day. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I'm looking for a new car from next year so if anyone has any ideas please let me know. I want a small hatchback, pref with four rather than two doors. It has to be petrol rather than diesel as diesel triggers asthma which I don't get otherwise. I'd also like it to have air conditioning and be reasonably nippy. I'm looking to buy a pre-reg for no more than £12k.
Its also got to be well built, I like to have my cars from new and then run them for about 14-15 years. Currently Polo is the frontrunner. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I know nothing about cars, nothing, nada niente. Everyone says polos are reliable though, and they are capacious. I quite like the volvo hatchback.. I like the back windscreen really. I have no idea how much it costs.
I am wondering though, if one of the smaller hybrids might work out cost effective (though looking at nearly new for that price i guess) good for the sort of roads /tradfic yu drive in?
Dh still wants this

We are looking for something similar to replace the old Mazda and have been thinking about the Honda Jazz.

(this is by no means a recommendation, just an idea)
Economical, spacious for its size, holds value, scores high in reliability charts and most importantly, Mrs. Wheezy agrees.0
